ศูนย์ข้อมูลที่รัฐเวอร์จิเนียของ Amazon Web Services ล่ม ทำให้บริการจำนวนมากที่อยู่ในศูนย์นี้พากันล่มตามไปด้วย นับแต่บริการดังๆ เช่น Instagram, Vine, Airbnb, และ Netflix

อเมซอนระบุว่าปัญหาต้นเหตุได้รับการแก้ไขไปแล้ว และเครื่องที่ใช้ EBS เป็นที่เก็บข้อมูลทั้งหมดสามารถทำงานได้เป็นปกติ แต่ยังมีปัญหากับระบบกระจายโหลด

การที่บริการจำนวนมากจะไปพึ่งพิงกับศูนย์ข้อมูลของอเมซอนทำให้บริการล่มพร้อมกันหมดเกิดขึ้นมาแล้วหลายครั้ง ทำให้คำถามว่าการพึ่งกับบริการแบบกลุ่มเมฆเป็นเรื่องสมเหตุสมผลหรือไม่

มีคำแนะนำมั้ยครับ ว่าบริการใหญ่ๆ อย่าง Instagram ควรเปิดศูนย์ข้อมูลเองเพื่อจัดการกับข้อมูล และการคำนวณขนาดใหญ่อย่างไร จึงจะคุ้มทุน ปลอดภัย และมีเสถียรภาพมากกว่าไป "จ่ายเงินเช่าจมูกคนอื่นหายใจ"
