มีข่าวไม่ยืนยันว่า ไมโครซอฟท์กำลังผลักดันให้ผู้ผลิตพีซี OEM สายวินโดวส์เลิกใช้ฮาร์ดดิสก์ และเปลี่ยนมาใช้ SSD เป็นสตอเรจหลักแทนภายในปี 2023

ตามสเปกของ Windows 11 ระบุว่าต้องการสตอเรจขั้นต่ำ 64GB แต่ไม่ระบุประเภท การที่ไมโครซอฟท์อยากผลักดันให้ใช้ SSD เพื่อประสบการณ์ที่ดีขึ้นก็เป็นสิ่งที่เข้าใจได้ แต่ก็มีข่าวว่าบรรดา OEM อยากเลื่อนเส้นตายปี 2023 ออกไปอยู่ดี ด้วยเหตุผลที่เข้าใจได้เช่นกันว่าเป็นเรื่องต้นทุนนั่นเอง โดยเฉพาะกลุ่มพีซีราคาถูกที่ยังใช้ฮาร์ดดิสก์เป็นหลัก

เว็บไซต์ Tom's Hardware ลองเทียบราคาสตอเรจ ฮาร์ดดิสก์ 1TB มีราคาประมาณ 45 ดอลลาร์, SSD 1TB ราคา 75 ดอลลาร์ และหากต้องการ SSD NVMe 1TB ราคาจะขึ้นไปถึง 150 ดอลลาร์เลยทีเดียว

ฝั่งไมโครซอฟท์ปฏิเสธไม่แสดงความเห็นต่อข่าวนี้

อย่าว่าแต่ Windows เลย ตอนนี้ Modern Linux บนฮาร์ดไดรฟ์เองก็ช้าไม่ต่างกัน จนเริ่มคิดว่ามันไม่เกี่ยวกับ OS แล้ว

เพราะ I/O ตอนนี้มันมีความเร็วสูงมากการออกแบบ SW มันเลยสามารถส่งข้อมูลที่ระเยอะๆ ได้ แต่พอมารันบน HDD มันก็ได้แค่นั้นแหละ หลังๆ ผมมองว่า HDD เหมาะกับการเก็บไฟล์มากกว่าเอาไว้ลงโปรแกรม นอกจากโปรแกรมนั้นไม่จำเป็นต้องการการโหลดที่เร็ว
