ผู้บริหารระดับสูงของ Sega แสดงความเห็นต่อกระแส play-to-earn (P2E) และ NFT ที่กำลังเป็นประเด็นร้อนแรงในวงการเกม คำตอบค่อนข้างเซอร์ไพร์สพอสมควร เพราะความเห็น Sega ไม่ได้ออกมาหนุนสุดตัวเหมือนค่ายเกมอื่นๆ (เช่น Ubisoft หรือ Square Enix)

Sega มองว่า NFT เป็นหนึ่งในสิ่งที่อยากทดลอง แต่ยังไม่ได้ตัดสินใจเรื่อง play-to-earn ว่าจะทำอย่างไร โดย Sega ยกกรณีของความเคลื่อนไหวเรื่องนี้ในต่างประเทศ และชี้ว่า__มีปฏิกิริยากลับมาในทางลบ__ บริษัทจึงต้องระมัดระวัง ทั้งในแง่เสียงตอบรับจากผู้เล่นในญี่ปุ่น และกรอบกฎหมายของญี่ปุ่นด้วย

Sega ยกหลักการว่าจะทำอะไรก็ตาม ต้องสอดคล้องกับเป้าหมายของบริษัทที่ว่า “Constantly Creating, Forever Captivating” แต่ถ้าเป็นการหาเงินอย่างเดียว บริษัทจะไม่ทำ

In terms of NFT, we would like to try out various experiments and we have already started many different studies and considerations but nothing is decided at this point regarding P2E. There have been many announcement about this already including at overseas but there are users who shows negative reactions at this point. We need to carefully assess many things such as how we can mitigate the negative elements, how much we can introduce this within the Japanese regulation, what will be accepted and what will not be by the users. Then, we will consider this further if this leads to our
mission “Constantly Creating, Forever Captivating”, but if it is perceived as simple money-making, I would like to make a decision not to proceed.

Sega ยังตอบคำถามเรื่องมุมมองต่อ Metaverse ว่าในความเข้าใจของบริษัท หมายถึงสถานที่ซึ่งผู้คนไปรวมตัวกัน ดังนั้น Fortnite หรือ Animal Crossing ก็ถือว่าเป็น Metaverse ในนิยามนี้ บริษัทจึงมองว่าเกม Phantasy Star Online 2 ที่มีส่วนของคอนเสิร์ตในเกม ถือเป็น Metaverse เช่นกัน

Sega บอกว่าเกมในอนาคต 3-5 ปีข้างหน้าต้องมีส่วนที่เป็น Metaverse ไม่อย่างนั้นจะล้าสมัย แต่ก็ย้ำว่าเป้าหมายหลักต้องไม่ใช่การสร้าง Metaverse แต่ต้องมองเรื่องการสร้างเกมที่มีคุณภาพต่างหาก
