Larry Ellison ซีอีโอของออราเคิลประกาศในงาน Oracle OpenWorld 2008 ว่าออราเคิลจับมือกับ HP ขายฮาร์ดแวร์สำหรับเซิร์ฟเวอร์ฐานข้อมูลในแบรนด์ HP Oracle Database Machine

HP Oracle Database Machine เป็นชุดเซิร์ฟเวอร์ที่ใช้ฮาร์ดแวร์จาก HP ตามชื่อ แต่ปรับแต่งให้มีประสิทธิภาพกับซอฟต์แวร์ของออราเคิลอย่างเต็มที่ ในชุดมีส่วนประกอบดังนี้

  • เซิร์ฟเวอร์ฐานข้อมูล 8 เครื่อง ฮาร์ดแวร์เป็น HP Proliant DL360 G5 แต่ละตัวมีซีพียู Quad Xeon จำนวนสองชุด แรม 32GB รัน Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1 (ซึ่งก็คือ RHEL เวอร์ชันของออราเคิล) และที่ขาดไม่ได้ Oracle Database 11g
  • เซิร์ฟเวอร์เก็บข้อมูล 14 เครื่อง ฮาร์ดแวร์เป็น HP ProLiant DL180 G5 รัน Oracle Exadata Storage Server (ซอฟต์แวร์ใหม่เปิดตัวในงานนี้เช่นกัน) ซึ่งจะช่วยให้การส่งข้อมูลระหว่างฐานข้อมูลกับพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูลทำได้เร็วขึ้น ตามคำอ้างของออราเคิลคือ 10 เท่า
  • สวิตช์จาก InfiniBand 4 ตัว
  • ทั้งชุดมาในตู้แร็คแบบ 42U มาตรฐาน 1 ตู้

สรุปว่า HP Oracle Database Machine คือจุดรวมผลิตภัณฑ์ฐานข้อมูลแบบครบวงจรจากออราเคิล โดย HP จะบริการส่วนของฮาร์ดแวร์ และออราเคิลจะบริการส่วนของซอฟต์แวร์ทั้งหมด ไล่ตั้งแต่ระบบปฏิบัติการ ฐานข้อมูล เก็บข้อมูล ไปจนถึงแอพพลิเคชัน

น่าจะบอกว่า สวิทช์ Infiniband 4 ตัว นะครับ เพราะ Infiniband เป็นประเภทหนึงของสวิทช์ไม่ใช่ชื่อยี่ห้อ

ถ้าเป็น Infiniband switch ของ HP สงสัยจะเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ของ Mellanox

ว่าแต่ทำไมให้มา 4 ตัวหว่า น่าจะให้ Infiniband 24 port มาตัวเดียวเลยเร็วกว่า

อ่าน datasheet แล้วพอเก็ตไอเดียล่ะ สงสัยจะเผื่อต่อ 2 port ต่อ 1 เครื่อง ทั้งหมดก็เป็น 44 port แล้วแถมเผื่อไว้ขยายตัวในอนาคตด้วย และต่อ external client ด้วย ใช้ 24x4 สงสัยจะเพื่อลด cost
