Apache OpenOffice และ LibreOffice เร่งพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์ รองรับ Office 2013 และ cloud

Apache OpenOffice และ LibreOffice กำลังพัฒนาชุดซอฟต์แวร์เวอร์ชันใหม่ โดยฟังก์ชันเด่นที่น่าสนใจ คือรองรับ Office 2013, ระบบ cloud, social network และการใช้งานบนแท็บเล็ต

ทางฝั่งของ Apache OpenOffice มีกำหนดจะปล่อยซอฟต์แวร์เวอร์ชัน 3.5 ช่วงไตรมาสแรกของปี 2013 โดยเน้นปรับปรุงการทำงานกับเอกสาร XML ของ Office 2007-2013 ให้มีประสิทธิภาพยิ่งขึ้น รวมทั้งเพิ่มความเสถียรและความสะดวกในการใช้งาน นอกจากนี้ยังเพิ่มภาษาที่รองรับอีกด้วย

Apache OpenOffice ยังมีแผนปรับเอา UI ของ Symphony ที่ได้จาก IBM มาใช้งานด้วย ซึ่งคาดว่าจะเริ่มเห็นในเวอร์ชัน 4.0 เป็นต้นไป

ส่วนแผนในระยะยาวของ Apache OpenOffice จะพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์ให้รองรับ OpenSocial, CMIS และ OData เพื่อเพิ่มโอกาสในการพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์สำหรับ social network

อีกด้านหนึ่ง LiberOffice ซึ่งเพิ่งปล่อยซอฟต์แวร์เวอร์ชัน 3.5 และ 3.6 มาในปีนี้ ก็กำลังปรับปรุงซอฟต์แวร์ให้รองรับระบบ cloud และการใช้งานบนแท็บเล็ตให้ดียิ่งขึ้น ทั้งนี้เป็นผลมาจากกระแสนโยบายให้พนักงานนำอุปกรณ์ไอทีของตนเองมาใช้งานในองค์กร (BYOD - bring your own device) ที่กำลังแพร่หลาย โดยคาดว่าจะสามารถใช้งานได้จริงปลายปีหน้า หรืออย่างช้าคือต้นปี 2014
