ไมโครซอฟท์จะมีอายุครบ 50 ปีในวันพรุ่งนี้ (ก่อตั้ง 4 เมษายน 1975) ในโอกาสนี้ผู้ก่อตั้งอย่างบิล เกตส์ จึงนำซอร์สโค้ดของ Altair Basic ซอฟต์แวร์ตัวแรกของไมโครซอฟท์ นำมาเผยแพร่ต่อสาธารณะ

เกตส์เล่าว่าเขากับพอล อัลเลน (เสียชีวิตในปี 2018) ใช้เครื่อง PDP-10 ของบริษัท DEC ในห้องแล็บคอมพิวเตอร์ของมหาวิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด ฝึกสร้างโปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ จากนั้นในปี 1975 เมื่อบริษัท MITS ออกเครื่องมินิคอมพิวเตอร์รุ่น Altair 8800 และโฆษณาในนิตยสาร Popular Electronics ทำให้พวกเขาทั้งสองคนมองว่านี่คือยุคสมัยของคอมพิวเตอร์ส่วนบุคคลที่กำลังจะเริ่มต้นขึ้น

เกตส์ ติดต่อไปยัง Ed Roberts ผู้ก่อตั้งบริษัท MITS เพื่อบอกว่ามีซอฟต์แวร์ภาษา BASIC ที่ทำงานได้บนชิป Intel 8008 ตัวเดียวกับที่ Altair 8800 เลือกใช้งาน ซึ่งนั่นเป็นเรื่องโกหก!

อัลเลนจึงต้องสร้างซอฟต์แวร์จำลองการทำงานของภาษา BASIC บนเครื่อง PDP-10 แทน เพราะไม่มีเครื่อง Altair จริงๆ ให้ทดสอบ ส่วนเกตส์แบ่งหน้าที่ไปสร้างโค้ดหลักของโปรแกรม และเพื่อนอีกคนคือ Monte Davidoff (ภายหลังเป็นพนักงานเบอร์สองของไมโครซอฟท์) สร้างโค้ดส่วนแพ็กเกจคณิตศาสตร์ ทั้งสามคนเร่งทำงานทั้งวันทั้งคืนเป็นเวลา 2 เดือน เพื่อสร้างซอฟต์แวร์ที่ไปโม้ไว้แล้วว่ามี

เมื่อซอฟต์แวร์พัฒนาเสร็จ พวกเขานำเดโมไปโชว์ Ed Roberts และประสบความสำเร็จด้วยดี บริษัท MITS ตกลงซื้อไลเซนส์ซอฟต์แวร์ตัวนี้ ทำให้เกตส์และอัลเลนตัดสินใจเปิดบริษัทชื่อ Micro-Soft ในปีเดียวกัน (ภายหลังตัด hyphen ออกจากชื่อ)

นึกถึงเมื่อ 10 ปีที่แล้วเลย ที่ Gen AI ยังไม่เกิด มีโครงการนึงของกรมที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในไทย เราก็สงสัยว่าทำไมไม่มีใครอยากรับงานเลย แล้วก็ร้อนเงินกำลังหาตังค์จ่ายเงินเดือน เพราะโดนเบี้ยวหนี้ อ่าน Tor เสร็จก็อ๋อเลยทำไมไม่มีใครอยากทำ เพราะมันต้องใช้ AI กับ Text ซึ่งสมัยนั้นมันไม่มีสำเร็จรูป และเก่งกับตัวเลขเป็นหลัก แต่หลังชนฝาแล้วนี่เอาวะลองดู น้องถาม พี่เอาจริงเหรอ ผมตอบเออ เดี๋ยวไปคิดต่อที่ office ตอนนี้โม้เอางานกันมาให้ได้ก่อน แล้วก็หัวหกก้นขวิดส่งงานผ่านได้ ด้วยวิธีคิดแบบย้อนศรนิดหน่อย 555 รวมถึงน้องๆ ที่เก่งและเชื่อใจ แต่ในใจแอบด่าอยู่หรือเปล่าก็ไม่รู้ ตอนนี้ก็แยกย้ายกันไปโตหมดแล้ว
