Gabi Cirlig นักวิจัยความปลอดภัยระบุกับเว็บ Forbes ว่าเขาพบว่าเบราว์เซอร์ Xiaomi ที่ติดตั้งไปกับโทรศัพท์ของ Xiaomi เป็นค่าเริ่มต้น และเบราว์เซอร์ที่เปิดให้ดาวน์โหลดจาก Google Play อย่าง Mi Browser Pro และ Mint Browser นั้นจะส่งข้อมูลการใช้งานกลับเซิร์ฟเวอร์จำนวนมาก โดยส่งข้อมูลไปพร้อมกับหมายเลขประจำเครื่องและเวอร์ชั่นแอนดรอยด์ที่น่าจะทำให้ระบุตัวตนผู้ใช้กลับได้โดยง่าย

โฆษกของ Xiaomi ระบุกับ Forbes ยืนยันว่าบริษัทรักษาความเป็นส่วนตัวผู้ใช้, ข้อมูลที่เก็บไปก็ไม่ผูกกับตัวตนผู้ใช้แต่อย่างใด, และผู้ใช้ได้ให้ความยินยอมในการเก็บข้อมูลแล้ว โดยอ้างว่าการเก็บข้อมูลการใช้งานเว็บโดยไม่ระบุตัวตนผู้ใช้นั้นเป็นแนวทางทั่วไปที่หลายบริษัทใช้ปรับปรุงการทำงานของเบราว์เซอร์

นอกจากการเก็บข้อมูลการเข้าเว็บแล้ว โทรศัพท์ Xiaomi ยังส่งข้อมูลกลับเซิร์ฟเวอร์เสมอ ทุกครั้งที่มีการเปิดแอป โดยโดเมนที่โทรศัพท์ส่งข้อมูลไป เป็นของบริษัท Sensor Analytics บริษัทวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจากจีน ทาง Xiaomi ระบุว่าแม้บริการนี้จะเป็นโซลูชั่นของ Sensor Analytics แต่เซิร์ฟเวอร์ก็ควบคุมโดย Xiaomi เองและบริษัทไม่ได้แชร์ข้อมูลให้บริษัทภายนอก แม้แต่ Sensor Analytics
