Facebook ออกมาประกาศสถิติผู้ใช้งานจริง (active user) ของแอพสนทนา Messenger ว่าทะลุหลัก 500 ล้านคนต่อเดือนไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว บริษัทจะใช้นโยบายออกแอพรุ่นใหม่ทุก 2 สัปดาห์เพื่อปรับปรุงคุณภาพอยู่เสมอ

David Marcus หัวหน้าทีม Messenger (เขาเป็นอดีตซีอีโอของ PayPal ที่เพิ่งย้ายมาเมื่อเดือน มิ.ย.) บอกว่าเราจะได้เห็น Messenger มีผู้ใช้งานเกิน 1 พันล้านคนอย่างแน่นอน

Marcus เล่าว่าเขามาทำงานนี้เพราะ Mark Zuckerberg เชิญไปทานอาหารเย็นและชักชวนให้มาดูแลแอพ Messenger ที่มีศักยภาพยิ่งใหญ่กว่ามากในอนาคต จนสุดท้ายเขาตัดสินใจออกจาก PayPal ที่มีพนักงาน 15,000 คน มาคุมฝ่าย Messenger ที่มีพนักงานไม่ถึง 100 คน

แนวทางของ Mark Zuckerberg คือซื้อบริษัทที่มีศักยภาพสูงอย่าง Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus VR แล้วปล่อยให้บริหารงานอย่างอิสระแบบสตาร์ตอัพ ในกรณีของ Messenger จะถูกจัดโครงสร้างองค์กรให้เป็นทีมอิสระแบบเดียวกัน

เคยอ่าน Wired แล้วก็เข้าใจครับ นั่นคือเหตุผลที่ต้องสร้าง app ตัวนี้

แต่ การที่บังคับให้ผู้ใช้ทุกคนต้องติดตั้ง app ตัวนี้ลงเครื่องนั้น ผมไม่ถือว่าการกระทำนี้สามารถนำมาวัดการเติบโตของ app ได้ โดยผู้ใช้หลายคนไม่ได้เต็มใจที่จะติดตั้งมัน เช่นผมคนหนึ่งล่ะ
