บริษัท ทรูโฟน (Truphone) www.truphone.com มาเหนือเมฆให้ผู้ที่อยากเป็นเจ้าของเครื่องไอโฟน (iPhone) ราคาถูกมีทางเลือกใหม่ โดยเพียงซื้อเครื่องเล่น iPod touch MP3 และเพิ่มซอฟต์แวร์ฟรีเข้าไปเพื่อแปลงเป็นเครื่องโทรศัพท์ได้ง่ายๆ

รายงานระบุว่า บริษัท อเมซอน (Amazon) ในสหราชอาณาจักรขายเครื่อง iPod touch 8GB ในราคา 155 ปอนด์ (ราว 8,200 บาท) ในขณะที่หากเป็นเครื่อง iPhone 8GB ที่ปลอล็อคมีราคาขายต่ำสุดที่ 592 เหรียญ (ราว 21,300 บาท)

ทรูโฟนเปิดเผยว่าเครื่อง iPod touch รุ่นใหม่ยังคงมีฟีเจอร์ Wi-Fi อยู่ด้วย ซึ่งดีเพียงพอสำหรับซอฟต์แวร์ VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) ของบริษัทในการใช้เรียกออกผ่านทางเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตไปยังผู้รับปลายทางได้

ทั้งนี้เมื่อผู้ใช้ทำการโหลดแอพพลิเคชันแล้ว จะปรากฏแผงคีย์เสมือน (virtual keypad) ขึ้นมาเพื่อให้กดหมายเลขปลายทางที่ต้องการ โดยมีสิ่งที่ต้องการเพิ่มเติมคือ ไมโครโฟน เท่านั้น

ดังนั้นผู้ใช้งานสามารถใช้โทรศัพท์ฟรีเรียกไปยังผู้รับปลายทางที่ใช้ซอฟต์แวร์ของทรูโฟนเช่นเดียวกันบนเครื่อง iPod touch หรือผู้ใช้ซอฟต์แวร์ของทรูโฟนบนแพลตฟอร์มอื่นๆ (ซอฟต์แวร์ที่เปิดตัวบนเครื่อง Nokia/Symbian) หรือ Google Talk ที่รันบนเครื่องพีซี
