Cisco เปิดตัว Network Convergence System ชุดเราท์เตอร์สำหรับเครือข่ายขนาดใหญ่

ซิสโก้ประกาศเปิดตัวชุดเราท์เตอร์ Network Convergence System (NCS) ขึ้นใหม่ เสริมกับชุดเราท์เตอร์เดิมอย่าง Aggregation Services Router (ASR) และ Carrier Routing System (CRS) โดยวางให้เป็นเราท์เตอร์เพื่อเชื่อมต่อทุกอย่างเข้ากับอินเทอร์เน็ต (Internet of Everything)

ความสามารถของ NCS คือการโปรแกรมและให้บริการแบบเสมือน เพื่อรองรับความต้องการไปใช้งาน Software Defined Network (SDN) และ Network Function Virtualization (NFV) ภายในใช้ชิปประมวลผลเน็ตเวิร์ค nPower X1 แบบเดียวกับที่ใช้ใน CRS-X ให้ประสิทธิภาพรวมระดับเพตาบิต สามารถทำงานร่วมกับเซิร์ฟเวอร์ UCS เพื่อการโยกย้ายทรัพยากรไปมาได้อย่างรวดเร็ว และทำงานแบบเสมือนทำให้สามารถขยายทรัพยากรทั้งเน็ตเวิร์คและการประมวลผลไปได้พร้อมกัน

ซิสโก้ระบุว่าตอนนี้มีลูกค้าบางรายกำลังติดตั้ง NCS แล้ว เช่น BSkyB เครือข่ายโทรทัศน์ในสหรัฐฯ, KDDI, และ Telstra

NCS มีทั้งหมดสามรุ่นได้แก่ NCS 6000 รุ่นสูงสุด วางตลาดแล้ว รองรับการ์ด 1Tbps สล็อตละ 5Tbps และประมวลผลได้ทั้งตู้ที่ระดับ 1.2Pbps, NCS 4000 วางตลาดปีหน้า รองรับสล็อตละ 400Gbps ทั้งตู้ 6.4Tbps, และ NCS 2000 วางตลาดแล้ว รองรับ DWDM ที่ 100Gbps
