Cliff Fox รองประธานอาวุโสฝ่าย Location Content ของโนเกียให้สัมภาษณ์กับเว็บไซต์ The Atlantic ว่าโนเกียดึงข้อมูลจากบริษัทขนส่งพัสดุระดับโลกอย่าง FedEx และ UPS ที่มีรถขนส่งพัสดุจำนวนมหาศาล วิ่งตามท้องถนนทั่วโลกอยู่ทุกวัน และรถทุกคันมี GPS ตามรอยที่ส่งข้อมูลกลับมายังบริษัทแม่ตลอดเวลา

โนเกียมีข้อมูลแผนที่เข้ามาเพิ่มเดือนละ 12 พันล้านชิ้น (นับเป็น data point) ไม่ว่าจะเป็นข้อมูลตำแหน่ง ทิศทาง และความเร็ว ของรถยนต์ขนส่งพัสดุ และบริษัทก็ใช้ข้อมูลเหล่านี้คำนวณหาถนนเปิดใหม่หรือการเปลี่ยนเส้นทางจราจร โดยตลอดปี 2012 ที่ผ่านมาโนเกียอัพเดตข้อมูลถนนไปแล้ว 6,500 จุดจากข้อมูลเหล่านี้

นอกจากนี้โนเกียก็มีรถยนต์แบบเดียวกับรถ Street View ของกูเกิล ไล่เก็บข้อมูลภาพถ่ายของถนนต่างๆ ด้วยเช่นกัน ดูภาพกันเองตามลิงก์นะครับ

ไปอ่านต้นข่าวอีกที เหมือนเราๆ จะโดนเกบข้อมูลไปใช้ด้วย ซึ่งก้อคล้ายๆ แอพสัญชาติไทยบางตัวอ่ะแล (ส่วนฟากกูเกิลนี่ไม่แน่ใจ ใครรุข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมก้อวานแชรที แอบอยากรุเช่นกัน)

แล้วก้อจาก note update ท้ายข่าว.. อาจจะไม่ได้รวมข้อมูลจาก UPS (คือเค้าแค่เอ่ยชื่อถึงให้เหนภาพ แต่ไม่ได้ยืนยันว่าใช้ข้อมูลจาก UPS ด้วย แต่ในอีกทางนึงก้อคือมีข้อมูลจากอีกหลายเจ้าด้วยเช่นกัน)

This portion of the story has been updated to clear up some confusion that I had with Nokia about who they were receiving data from. While they receive data from many commercial fleets -- and it seemed to me that Fox's statement implied UPS contributed data to Navteq, that is not actually the case. In his quote, he's using the named logistics companies as examples of the types of fleets that they work with.

คนใช้ iphone อาจจะรู้สึกเช่นนั้น...แต่คนใช้ symbian กับ windowsphone รู้สึกว่ามันเจ๋งกว่าแมปฟรีๆ ตัวอื่นๆ มากมาย อย่างน้อยก็ไม่ต้องออนไลน์เพื่อดูแผนที่แหล่ะ แถมความละเอียดของแผนที่ที่อัพเดทแทบทุกเดือน... Google สู้ไม่ได้เลย (อย่าไปเทียบกับ Garmin นะครับ อันนั้นมันไม่ฟรี)
