ไมโครซอฟท์อวด Windows Live Mesh เชื่อมต่ออุปกรณ์ 5 ล้านชิ้น

ไมโครซอฟท์ออกมาอวดความสำเร็จของ Windows Live Mesh บริการซิงก์ข้อมูลข้ามอุปกรณ์ของตัวเอง (ซึ่งชื่อเรียกสับสนมาก - ข่าวเก่า) ว่าตอนนี้มีอุปกรณ์มาเชื่อมต่อแล้ว 5 ล้านชิ้น, ผู้ใช้งาน 3 ล้านบัญชี, แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลไปแล้ว 2.2 เพตะไบต์

ตัวเลขทั้งหมดนับจากเดือนกันยายน 2010 ส่วนบริการคู่กันอีกตัวคือ SkyDrive ซึ่งเป็น cloud storage บนเว็บมีผู้ใช้จำนวน 70 ล้านคน

ผมไม่เคยใช้ก็คงให้ความเห็นไม่ถูกครับ (ว่าแต่ทำไมไม่รวม Mesh กับ SkyDrive เป็นตัวเดียวไปเลยละเนี่ย)

ข้อดีของมันคือ ไม่จำกัดปริมาณข้อมูล, เก็บข้อมูลที่ไหนก็ได้ในเครื่อง, ทำ Lan Sync ได้

ข้อเสียคือ database ข้อมูลที่จะ sync เก็บอยู่บน server MS (มีแค่สายแลนยัง sync กันไม่ได้), เก็บข้อมูลบน cloud storage ได้แค่ 5 GB เอง (ในชื่อของ SkyDrive), interface โครตงง ใช้รอบแรกนี้ไปไม่ถูกเลย แถมโปรแกรมยัง crash อยู่บ้าง (นานๆ ที - แต่ลองเทียบกับ dropbox ที่ไม่เคยเจอ crash ก็เซ็งแฮะ)

ผมเคยใช้อยู่ มันก็ไม่ได้ใช้ยากนะ แต่ Interface ไม่ใช่แบบที่จะมองแล้วรู้ เห็นได้ทันที จะต้องทดสอบนิดหน่อย หลัก ๆ แล้วดีพอ ๆ กับ Dropbox แต่ถ้าเทียบเรื่องการใช้งานง่าย Dropbox จะกินขาดครับ เพราะ UI มันเรียบง่ายกว่า (ไม่ใช่ด้อยประสิทธิภาพตามความเรียบง่ายนะ)

ข้อเสียหลักที่ผมเจอตอนทดสอบเมื่อเดือน 2 เดือนที่แล้วคือ Mesh นั้น syn ช้ามากทั้ง ๆ ที่ไฟล์ .txt เล็กนิดเดียว แต่ใช้เวลาเป็นนาที หรือเป็น 10 นาทีเลย และมันกิน b/w ของเน็ตเอาเรื่องเลยระหว่าง syn ทั้ง ๆ ที่ไฟล์เล็ก คิดว่าคงเป็นปัญหาด้าน software พัฒนาไปสักพักคงหาย เพราะ app ของ Microsoft ที่ทำงานบนเน็ตแต่ละตัว พบว่าช้าทุกตัวตอนพึ่งเปิดตัว ผ่านไป 2 - 12 เดือน ถึงจะเร็วพอจะทันคนอื่นเขาบ้าง

ตอนแรกที่เป็น Live Mesh นั่นแยกครับ ตอนนี้จับมารวมเป็น Windows Live Mesh แล้ว คือให้ Live Mesh มาเก็บข้อมูลบน SkyDrive เลย ดึงข้อมูลโดยตรงก็ได้ หรือจะ Sync เครื่องต่อเครื่อง Sync บน SkyDrive ก็ได้

ผมใช้อยู่.. Mesh อ่ะ.. แต่ใช้ส่วน Remote ซะส่วนใหญ่..เอาไว้ไปจัดการปัญหาเครื่องของคนอื่นในบ้าน

ของผมก็ 5 เครื่องเข้าไปละ
