Ubuntu ออกเวอร์ชัน 24.10 โค้ดเนม Oracular Oriole มีของใหม่ดังนี้

  • Kernel 6.11 ตามนโยบายใหม่ ใช้เคอร์เนลเวอร์ชันใหม่ที่สุดเสมอ
  • เพิ่ม kdump-tools เปิดใช้เป็นดีฟอลต์ในบางอิมเมจ เพื่อเก็บ kernel crash dump ไปวิเคราะห์ปัญหาได้รวดเร็ว
  • GNOME 47 และธีมสีน้ำตาลย้อนยุค Warty Brown ฉลองครบ 20 ปี Ubuntu ที่เวอร์ชันแรก Warty Warthog ใช้ธีมสีน้ำตาล
  • เพิ่ม Permissions prompt ขอสิทธิการเข้าถึงของแอพ (ลักษณะเดียวกับ UAC ของ Windows หรือระบบปฏิบัติการมือถือ)
  • รองรับฟอร์แมต OpenVEX และ OSV ที่เป็นมาตรฐานการรายงานช่องโหว่ความปลอดภัย
  • แพ็กเกจซอฟต์แวร์เวอร์ชันใหม่ Rust 1.80
  • แพ็กเกจ Java สองเวอร์ชันคือ OpenJDK 21 และ OpenJDK 17 ผ่านการทดสอบ TCK (Technology Compatibility Kit) ว่าเข้ากันได้กับสเปก Java SE
  • เพิ่มแพ็กเกจ Valkey โครงการที่แยกตัวมาจาก Redis โดยจะพอร์ตกลับไปให้ Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ด้วย

ถ้าใช้ Remote Desktop เช่น AnyDesk ปกติจะต้อง Configure WaylandEnabled=false
ที่ /etc/gdm3/custom.conf และ Login แบบใช้ Xorg

แต่เวอร์ชันก่อนหน้านี้คือหลังเพิ่ม WaylandEnabled=false เข้าไปแล้ว หลัง Login ก็จะเป็น Blank Screen เฉยๆ เลยครับ

ตอนนี้ย้ายไปใช้ Debian แทนละครับ ใช้ Xorg ได้ไม่มีปัญหา

ถึงจะไม่อยากให้ Canonical ผลักดัน Snap แต่ก็ต้องยอมรับ Ubuntu มีส่วนอย่างมากในการขยายกลุ่มผู้ใช้งาน Linux Desktop

x86 เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมโพรเซสเซอร์ และ Linux กับ Ubuntu เป็น Kernel กับ OS

x86 ไม่มีทีท่าว่าจะหายไปจากทั้งสองฝั่ง ถ้าให้บอกตามตรง ARM รุกคืบ Cloud และ Server เร็วกว่าฝั่ง Desktop ที่ติด Legacy เยอะด้วยซ้ำ แถม Intel ก็แก้เกมกับ ARM โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเมื่อแข่งกับ Apple Silicon ได้เรียบร้อยแล้ว แถม Snapdragon X ก็ทำการบ้านได้แย่แถมผิดความคาดหวังคนไปไกลมาก

ถ้าพูดถึงการที่ Liunx จะเข้ามาแทนที่ Windows เองก็ยังจัดว่าห่างชั้น แม้ส่วนแบ่งการตลาดจะลดลงทีละเล็กทีละน้อย Microsoft เองก็พยายามทำให้ OS ตัวเองได้รับความนิยมอยู่อย่างต่อเนื่อง ส่วน Linux เองจุดบอดยังมีอีกเพียบที่จะทำให้ OS เทียบชั้นของระดับ Commercial ที่เก่งด้านจับฉ่ายมาตั้งแต่แรกแล้ว ให้บอกตามตรง ส่วนหนึ่งที่ Linux จะไม่มีวันประสบความสำเร็จในฐานะ OS ก็เป็นเพราะชุมชนด้วยกันเองนี่แหละ สิบยี่สิบปีก็ยังเถียงเรื่องระบบแพ็กเกจ การกระจายซอฟต์แวร์ และ Display Server กันอยู่ไม่ยอมจบสิ้น

ถ้าระบบแพ็คเกจทุกวันนี้กระแส flatpak มาแรงและอาจจะโค่น snap ครับ ระบบแพ็คเกจแต่ละอันมีแนวคิดแตกต่างกันไป ส่วนหนึ่งที่ snap ยังอยู่ได้เพราะ Ubuntu ฝั่ง debian ยังติดอยู่กับ deb ต่อไป แต่ตอนนี้เริ่มมี appimage ที่เริ่มมาแรง ส่วนตัวเชียร์ appimage ง่ายดี แค่รันไฟล์เดียวเหมือน windows เลย

นอกเรื่อง: เปลี่ยน thumbnail ของ tag Ubuntu ให้เป็นโลโก้ปัจจุบันดีมั้ยครับ? เพราะว่าโลโก้ใหม่ใช้มาประมาณ 2 ปีแล้ว น่าจะคุ้นตากันแล้ว
