Waymo ระดมทุนจากนักลงทุนภายนอกครั้งแรก ได้มา 2.25 พันล้านดอลลาร์

Waymo ประกาศความสำเร็จในการระดมทุนเพิ่มได้อีกราว 2.25 พันล้านดอลลาร์จาก Silver Lake บริษัท Private Equity สหรัฐ, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, บริษัทลงทุน Andreessen Horowitz, Mubadala Investment Company กองทุนความมั่งคั่งของ UAE และที่น่าสนใจคือมีบริษัทชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์มาลงทุนด้วยอย่าง Magna International, AutoNation และบริษัทแม่ Alphbet

การลงทุนครั้งนี้ทำให้ตัวแทนจาก Silver Lake และ Canada Pension Plan Investment Board จะมานั่งเป็นบอร์ดของ Waymo ด้วย ขณะที่แผนของ Waymo เร็ว ๆ นี้จะขยายจำนวนรถ Chrysler Pacifica ที่ให้บริการ Waymo One อีกราว 2 หมื่นคัน และภายในสิ้นปีนี้จะอัพเดตระบบไร้คนขับเวอร์ชันล่าสุด (Waymo Driver) เป็นรุ่นที่ 5 ที่จะรองรับสภาพอากาศทุกสภาพอากาศแล้ว

ส่วนต้นปีที่ผ่านมา Waymo ก็เพิ่งประกาศขยายการทดสอบวิ่งรถบรรทุกไร้คนขับใน Texas และ New Mexicao เพิ่มเติม
