MacRumors รายงานอ้างอิงข้อมูลจากบันทึก (memo) ภายในของ Virgin Mobile ที่ระบุว่าแอปเปิลเตรียมจะเปิดตัว iPhone 8 และ 8 Plus สีแดงเวอร์ชัน Product RED ในวันพรุ่งนี้ตามเวลาบ้านเรา

ข้อมูลนี้ได้รับการสนับสนุนเพิ่มเติมโดย Mark Gurman นักข่าวสายแอปเปิลจาก Bloomberg ที่ระบุว่าจะเปิดตัวภายในสัปดาห์นี้ โดยรุ่นก่อนหน้าอย่าง iPhone 7 และ 7 Plus ที่เป็น Product RED ถูกเปิดตัวในเดือนมีนาคม

Product RED เป็นแบรนด์ที่ถูกก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อนำเงินที่ได้จากสินค้าภายใต้แบรนด์ ไปช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วย HIV และเอดส์ในทวีปแอฟริกาและสร้างการตระหนักรู้ถึงปัญหาดังกล่าว โดยแบรนด์ที่เซ็นสัญญากับ Product RED นอกจากแอปเปิลก็มีไนกี้, Starbucks, Converse เป็นต้น
