Solaris ไม่ฟรีอีกต่อไป

หลังจากที่ซันเปิดตัว Solaris 10 เมื่อ 6 ปีที่แล้ว (ข่าวเก่า) โดยไม่คิดค่าใช้จ่ายในการใช้งาน และหลังจากออราเคิล ซึ่งเข้าทำการซื้อซันเมื่อปลายปีที่แล้ว ประกาศว่าจะสู้ต่อในศึก Solaris/SPARC (ข่าวเก่า) สิ่งแรกที่ออราเคิลทำคือแก้สัญญาอนุญาตจากที่เคยอนุญาตให้ใช้ Solaris ได้ฟรี กลายมาเป็นว่าใช้ฟรีได้ 90 วัน และถ้าต้องการใช้ต่อ ต้องขอซื้อบริการจากออราเคิล

ส่วน OpenSolaris ยังฟรีและโอเพนซอร์สอยู่เช่นเดิมครับ (แต่จะมีคนใช้เหรอ ?)

ปล. (Open)Solaris จะเป็นอย่างไรก็ช่าง แต่ออราเคิลจงบอกเรามาเดี๋ยวนี้ว่า จะทำอย่างไรกะ MySQL ต่อไป!! ไม่งั้นเราจะถอดใจ แล้วเปลี่ยนไปใช้ PostgreSQL ให้หมด

เหอๆ ผมเปรียบเทียบที่ว่ามันพัฒนาไปมากกว่าเพราะ

  • พวก tools ที่มีให้ใช้มากกว่า
  • performance scale เท่าที่ web ใหญ่ๆเค้าใช้งานกันอ่ะครับ เดี๋ยวนี้เห็นใช้ mysql เยอะขึ้น
    เท่านี้แหละครับ แหะๆ ไม่มีอะไรจริงๆ

เจ้าช้างน้อย นี้คนไทยจะคุ้นกันน้อยกว่าเท่านั้นเอง ส่วนตัวผมว่า ช้างน้อย มีของครบในแง่ของ relational มากกว่า นะครับ

Solaris เดิมก็คนใช้ไม่เยอะอยู่แล้วมั้ง

ส่วน PostgreSQL ยังทำใจใช้ไม่ได้จริงๆ มันไม่คุ้นมั้ง จะเปลี่ยนไปใช้ทีไรก็ต้องกลับมา MySQL ทุกที

ไม่มีใครห่วง Open Office เลยหรอครับ หรือว่า ไม่เกี่ยวกะ sun -> Oracle

และก็หาตัวอื่นแทนได้ยากด้วยสิ

OO.o นั้นมีทั้ง IBM ที่หยิบมาต่อยอดในชื่อ Lotus Symphony และ Novell (เจ้าของ SUSE และ OpenSUSE) เอา OO.o มาโมฯ นิดหน่อยให้เข้าที่แล้วออกมาในชื่อ Go-oo มีให้ใช้กันในหมู่มวล Linux ทั้งหลาย

แปลว่าไม่น่ากลัวหรอกครับเรื่อง OO.o เพราะจริง ๆ แล้วมันเป็นความมั่นคงของ Linux เลยแหละ ต้องมีเจ้าใหญ่ ๆ เอาไปทำต่ออย่างแน่นอน อย่าได้เป็นกังวล

อย่างนี้ก็ค่อยโล่งใจหน่อย

แต่อันที่จริง oracle ซื้อ Sun ก็คิดในด้านบวก(ไว้ก่อน)กับ OpenOffice ว่าจะเป็นการเร่งให้มีการพัฒนาเร็วขึ้น เพราะตอนนี้กำลังปลื้มใจกับ 3.2 อยู่

SOLARIS ผมว่ามันใช้งานง่ายสุดแล้วนะใน UNIX มี tools ที่ดีด้วย
