ปัญหาของ Android 64 บิต คือยังไม่มีระบบปฏิบัติการ 64 บิต

เมื่อวานนี้เราเห็นข่าว HTC Desire 510 มือถือ Android 64 บิตตัวแรก (ใช้ Snapdragon 410 64 บิต) อย่างไรก็ตาม เว็บไซต์ Ars Technica ก็ตั้งข้อสังเกตว่ามันยังไม่สามารถเรียกว่าเป็น Android 64 บิตได้เต็มปาก เพราะปัจจุบันโลกเรายังไม่มีระบบปฏิบัติการ Android แบบ 64 บิต!

ผู้ที่ต้องการใช้ Android 64 บิต ต้องรอ Android L ซึ่งเป็นระบบปฏิบัติการ Android เวอร์ชันแรกที่จะรองรับ 64 บิตในตัว ส่วนผู้ซื้อ HTC Desire 510 (ที่ยังไม่บอกว่าวางขายเมื่อไรเช่นกัน) ก็ต้องรอ HTC อัพเกรดเป็น Android L ด้วย (ซึ่งก็ไม่รู้ว่าเมื่อไร)

ในประกาศของ HTC เองก็เลี่ยงที่จะกล่าวถึงฟีเจอร์ด้าน 64 บิต และหันไปชูจุดขายเรื่องการเป็นมือถือ 4G ในราคาถูกแทนครับ

ไม่เสมอไปครับ ยังมีแอพที่ไม่รองรับกับ ART Runtime อีกเยอะ เพราะส่วนใหญ่ต้องพัฒนาเผื่อรุ่นก่อนหน้าด้วย

ART ไช้วิธี compile บนเครื่องเป้าหมาย ถึง app จะไม่ใด้ออกแบบมาให้ไช้ประโยชน์ของ 64bit แต่เมื่อติดตั้งจะใด้รับการ optimize โดย compiler เอง

เสมอไปครับ เพราะ Android L = ART ส่วน App ที่ไม่สามารถใช้กับ ART ได้ก็แค่ deprec ไปครับ เพราะ Android L ไม่มี Dalvik ให้ใช้แล้ว

ปัญหา 64Bit ก็คือพวก App Native มากกว่า

Native ไม่มีทางเลือกอื่นนอกจาก recompile ครับ สูตรที่เหมาะสมคงทำเป็น fat binary คือมี binary สำหรับหลาย architecture ยัดมาในก้อนเดียว

เมื่อต้นปี มีเพื่อนถามว่าทำไมมือถือถึงใส่แรมแค่ 3GB ไม่ใส่มาเป็น 4GB

ตอบเพื่อนไปว่าตอนนี้ Android ยังเป็น 32 บิตอยู่ ใส่เกินกว่า 3 ก็เห็นได้แค่ 3 ล่ะ ต้องรอให้ Android ทำเวอร์ชัน 64 บิตมาก่อน

ถ้าเมื่อไหร่ Android 64 บิตเป็นที่แพร่หลาย คงเห็นมือถือใช้แรม 4GB กันล่ะ พร้อมกับแอปแต่ละตัวที่จะซดแรมกันมากขึ้นอย่างไม่บันยะบันยัง

ทุกวันนี้ขนาดใช้แรม 2GB เครื่องยัง Kill App เป็นระยะๆ เลย เปิด Maps นำทางอยู่ แล้วสลับไปแอปอื่น กลายเป็น Maps หายตลอด T-T

แล้ว Windows Phone นี่รองรับ

ตามทฤษฎีแล้วรองรับคับ เพราะระบบมันคือ Windows NT + WinRT + .NET Framework ตัวเต็ม ซึ่ง Windows NT ก็รองรับ AMD64 มานานแล้ว ส่วน WinRT ก็มีเวอร์ชั่น AMD64 ตั้งแต่แรก ส่วน .NET Framework ตัวเต็มนี่ก็รองรับ AMD64 เหมือนกัน ปัญหาใหญ่ที่สุดน่าจะเป็นเรื่อง JIT ของ .NET Framework สำหรับ AArch64 แต่สำหรับ Microsoft แล้วคาดว่าไม่ใช่ปัญหาใหญ่ เพราะเห็นไม่มีปัญหากับ AArch32 เลย

ส่วน VC++ นี่ก็รองรับ AArch32 มาพักใหญ่ๆแล้ว การจะทำให้รองรับ AArch64 คาดว่าไม่ใช่เรื่องใหญ่
