สำหรับคนที่ลองเล่น Ubuntu แล้วพบว่าปัญหาพวกการติดตั้ง codec หรือไดรเวอร์ต่างๆ ที่ต้องทำด้วยตัวเองเป็นเรื่องกวนใจ บ่นไปก็คงไม่มีประโยชน์เพราะพวกนี้เป็นปัญหาทางกฎหมาย ทางออกที่ง่ายกว่าคือใช้ LinuxMint
ในขณะที่ Ubuntu ออกทุกหกเดือน LinuxMint ออกเร็วกว่านั้นมาก ทุก 1-2 เดือน ในเวอร์ชันล่าสุด 2.2 ก็มีของหลายอย่างที่ไม่มีใน Ubuntu เช่น ธีม (สำหรับคนที่ไม่ชอบสีน้ำตาลคงจะดีใจ), เมนูและ control panel ใหม่ของ GNOME (แบบเดียวกับของ SUSE), ไดรเวอร์ WiFi, Codec ต่างๆ, โปรแกรมเสริมที่ไม่ใช่โอเพนซอร์สอย่าง Flash 9 หรือจาวา เป็นต้น รายละเอียดลองอ่านได้จาก Release Notes
ผมคิดว่า LinuxMint เหมาะสำหรับคนที่ต้องไปติดตั้งลินุกซ์ให้ชาวบ้าน หรือบางกรณีที่ไม่มีอินเทอร์เน็ตสำหรับดาวน์โหลดโปรแกรมอื่นๆ การอัพเกรดไม่ต้องเป็นห่วงเพราะว่า LinuxMint ใช้ repository เดียวกับ Ubuntu ได้ สิ่งที่ต้องรอดูกันนิดนึงคือทีม LinuxMint จะมีแรงพัฒนากันได้ต่อเนื่องแค่ไหน ถ้ายืนระยะยาวเกิน 1 ปีได้ ก็น่าสนใจทีเดียว

Mint มันรับแค่ i386 น่ะสิ ตอนนี้ที่อนาคตไกลน่าจะเป็น Gentoo on PS3 เพราะ
1. Gentoo update ทุกวัน 2. ไม่ต้อง compile ใหม่ เพราะ ps3 มี hardware ที่เหมือน ๆ กัน ลงจาก stage4 ได้เลย 3. gentoo ทำขึ้นมาเพื่อ ps3 โดยเฉพาะ เพราะแรมมันแค่ 256
คิดว่าโลกกำลังเปลี่ยนแล้วล่ะ จาก WinTel เป็น LinCell

เข้าใจผิดหรือเปล่าครับที่บอกว่า LinuxMint เข้ามาแก้เรื่อง codec ต่าง ๆ ที่เป็นปัญหาทางกฏหมาย
ผมเข้าไปอ่านดู FAQ แล้วเขาอธิบายไว้แบบนี้

It doesn't. If it did, it would be legally wrong (because it would violate the GPL) or ethically wrong (if some dirty trick was used for the user to link the code to the kernel for instance).
Is Linux Mint "Ubuntu + Multimedia Codecs"?
No. Linux Mint's purpose is to produce a great desktop operating system. The fact that it is based on Ubuntu or that it comes with multimedia codecs is just an aspect of it. Some projects like "Automatix", or "Ubuntu Ultimate Edition" already bring multimedia codecs and additional software to Ubuntu and such is their purpose. Our purpose has nothing to do with Ubuntu. Our purpose is to make a great desktop operating system. In that process we decided to use Ubuntu as our starting point because they represented the best alternative for us to start from. We have a very different structure than the one of Ubuntu and a very different vision of what a desktop should be. Ubuntu is a great distribution and so is Linux Mint, they are compatible and they will hopefully collaborate and learn from each others, but they are nonetheless different distributions and heading towards different directions.
ตัวที่มาครบ ๆ และลดปัญหากวนใจน่าจะเป็น Ubuntu Ulitimate Edition มากกว่า

ตอนนี้ก็ใช้อยู่ครับ สะดวกสบายดีนะ ไม่ต้องลงอะไรหลายๆ อย่างเองให้เมื่อย แถมธีมและ wallpaper ที่ให้มาก็สวยดีครับ
