GNOME ได้รับเงินจากรัฐบาลเยอรมนี 1 ล้านยูโร ปรับปรุงฟีเจอร์ขนานใหญ่

GNOME Foundation มูลนิธิผู้ดูแลโครงการลินุกซ์เดสก์ทอป GNOME ได้รับเงินจาก Sovereign Tech Fund กองทุนสนับสนุนเทคโนโลยีที่เป็นโครงสร้างพื้นฐาน โดยได้รับเงินก้อน 1 ล้านยูโร ทำให้ทาง GNOME เตรียมปรับปรุงฟีเจอร์ขนานใหญ่ตลอดปี 2024 ได้แก่

  • ปรับปรุงฟีเจอร์ accessibility รวมถึงการออกแบบใหม่
  • เพิ่มฟีเจอร์เข้ารหัส home folder แยกตามผู้ใช้
  • ปรับปรุงกระบวนการเก็บกุญแจและรหัสผ่าน
  • รองรับฮาร์ดแวร์ใหม่ๆ เพิ่ม
  • ลงทุนกับการควบคุมคุณภาพ, ขยาย API, และปรับปรุงแพลตฟอร์มโดยรวม

Sovereign Tech Fund นั้นลงทุนกับโครงการโอเพนซอร์สมาแล้วจำนวนมาก โครงการที่ได้รับทุน เช่น curl, WireGuard, OpenSSH, Python โดยเฉพาะปี 2023 กองทุนนี้ได้รับงบประมาณ 11.5 ล้านยูโร

  1. ไม่สนใจจะทำ
  2. สนใจทำ แต่เลือกทำเอง ตั้งชื่อสื่อความเป็นไทย แล้วก็ทิ้งเสียของ เสียงบประมาณฟรี

แนวคิดของเยอรมันนอกจากป๋าแล้วยังมีวิสัยทัศน์ด้วย ถ้าโครงการต้นน้ำดีมีคุณภาพ ตัวเองก็ได้ใช้ของดีด้วย โดยไม่ต้องทำเอง

ก่อน 2012 ใช้ KDE ครับหลังจากเปลี่ยนมาใช้ Debian,Ubuntu ก็ชอบ Gnome มากกว่าเพราะความเรียบง่าย

KDE ปรับแต่งได้มากกว่า แต่ Settings สลับซับซ้อน ยุ่งยาก
Gnome ปรับแต่งได้จำดัดกว่า แต่ Settings เรียบง่ายกว่ามาก
