ปิดเก่ง Google Cloud เตรียมปิดบริการ IoT Core ให้เวลาอีกหนึ่งปี

Google Cloud ประกาศปิดบริการ IoT Core ที่ใช้เชื่อมต่ออุปกรณ์ IoT เข้ากับบริการคลาวด์ ผ่านทางโปรโตคอล MQTT และ HTTP โดยบริการนี้เปิดให้บริการทั่วไปมาตั้งแต่ปี 2017 จนถึงตอนนี้ก็ประมาณ 5 ปีเต็ม

ทาง Google Cloud ส่งอีเมลแจ้งปิดบริการให้กับลูกค้าที่ใช้งานอยู่ และปรับหน้าเว็บแสดงแบนเนอร์ว่ากำลังปิดบริการ ปัญหาใหญ่ของระบบ IoT เช่นนี้คือพันธมิตรและอุตสาหกรรมมักต้องลงทุนกับการพัฒนาฮาร์ดแวร์เพื่อให้ทำงานร่วมกับบริการคลาวด์ การที่กูเกิลประกาศปิดบริการโดยให้เวลาเพียงปีเดียวเช่นนี้น่าจะสร้างปัญหาต่ออุตสาหกรรมที่ผูกติดกับบริการของกูเกิลไปแล้วค่อนข้างมาก

กูเกิลเปิดบริการจำนวนมากและปิดบริการไปเรื่อยๆ เป็นแนวทางที่กูเกิลทำมานาน จนถูกล้อเลียนอยู่ตลอดมา แต่การปิดบริการระดับองค์กรเช่นนี้คงกระทบกับความน่าเชื่อถือของกูเกิลในการทำตลาดระดับองค์กรอีกพอสมควร

อันนี้โคตรแย่ Google Cloud ปิดบริการ IoT Core แล้วให้เวลาปีเดียว

คิดถูกจริง ๆ ที่ยังไม่ย้ายอะไรไป GCP แบบจริงๆ จังๆ เพราะพี่เล่นปิดแบบให้เวลาสั้นขนาดนี้ ระบบซับซ้อนสูง หรือมีการ implement ในระบบขนาดใหญ่ กระทบแรงมาก

แล้วยิ่ง IoT บางครั้งต้องไปไล่แก้ firmware อีก แค่คิดก็...

ที่ office ผมเกือบไป IoT บน GCP แล้ว
จริงๆ ตั้งใจจะให้ Google ไปแล้วด้วย แต่ partner ไม่ Ok สุดท้ายเลยไปกับเจ้าอื่น
ถ้าตอนนั้นไปจริงๆ แล้วมาเจอแบบนี้นี่อย่างซึม

อันนี้ก็เตือน 1 ปีนะครับ แต่ปีเดียวฝั่ง IoT นี่คือโหดมาก เกิดลงเซ็นเซอร์ไปสักสองสามร้อยตัวปีนี้ก็ไม่ต้องทำอย่างอื่นแล้ว

นั่นแหละครับประเด็น ยิ่งทำแบบนี้บ่อย ๆ คนยิ่งขยาด คนก็ไม่อยากใช้ Google Cloud เพราะเรื่องฟีเจอร์ที่เอาออกเรื่อย ๆ

จนสุดท้ายก็กลับมาลูปเดิมว่า ทำไมคนไม่ใช้ Google Cloud

มีความรู้สึกว่า พวกบริการที่ใช้ง่าย ๆ อย่าง AppEngine น่าจะประสบชะตากรรมเดียวกัน

ได้เวลาเรียนรู้ Container อย่างจริงจังแล้วสินะเรา

กูเกิลคงบอก Goo ไม่แคร์ ปิดยังไงก็มีคนใช้อยู่ดี

แต่เดี๋ยวรอดูในอนาคตได้เลย ความน่าเชื่อถือเหมือนยุค Microsoft ยุคที่ชอบปิดบริการบ่อยๆ

เอาจริง ๆ อะไรก็ไม่แน่ไม่นอนครับ เพราะอย่างไมโครซอฟท์เองก็ปิดบริการที่ไม่ทำกำไรบ่อยเหมือนกัน (แต่ฝั่ง enterprise นี่ไม่ค่อยได้ปิดอะไรเท่าไรนะ แต่ก็ไม่ใช่ว่าจะไม่ปิดเลยเสียทีเดียว)
