ปีที่แล้ว Cyanogen Inc. เจ้าของรอมโอเพนซอส CyanogenMod ประสบปัญหาภายในครั้งใหญ่ ผู้บริหารลาออก ทีมงานวงแตก จนสุดท้าย ทีม CyanogenMod แยกตัวไปทำ LineageOS ก่อนที่ข่าวคราวของ Cyanogen Inc. จะเงียบหายไปค่อนปี

ล่าสุดที่ Cyanogen Inc. หายหน้าไปเหมือนจะหายไปชุบตัวก่อนที่จะกลับมาในชื่อใหม่ Cyngn โดยซีอีโอยังเป็น Lior Tal คนเดิม พร้อมเปลี่ยนทิศทางและวิสัยทัศน์ของบริษัทแบบหันหัวเรือ จากที่ทำรอมโอเพนซอส คราวนี้บริษัทตั้งใจจะพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีไร้คนขับ โดยได้ทีมงานและผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากบริษัทรถยนต์มาร่วมทีมบ้างแล้ว ขณะเดียวกันก็กำลังประกาศหางานในหลายตำแหน่งด้วย

น่าสนใจว่าหลังเปลี่ยนชื่อ เปลี่ยนทีมงานและเปลี่ยนยุทธศาสตร์แล้ว Cyngn จะไปได้ไกลแค่ไหนกับเทคโนโลยีรถไร้คนขับที่มีคู่แข่งค่อนข้างเยอะและก็พัฒนากันมานานแล้ว แต่ถึงกระนั้น Cyngn ก็ได้รับใบอนุญาตในการนำรถไร้คนขับมาวิ่งทดสอบบนถนนในรัฐแคลิฟอร์เนียเรียบร้อยแล้ว

ยังงงๆ Business Model ของ CM เหมือนกัน

อย่าง Xiaomi ที่ทำ MIUI แต่ Business Model ในตอนนั้นก็เหมือนจะเป็น e-commerce ไว้หาเงิน

ตอนแรก CM เป็นโปรเจ็คทำเล่นแต่ไม่นานผู้ไช้ก็เยอะขึ้น

เพื่อหาเงิน CM ตั้งใจผนวก service ลงไปกับ rom แบบเดียวกับ google โดยให้ service เสียบแทนของ google รวมถึงจับมือ microsoft เอา bing ใส่เป็น search ด้วย ตอนนั้นถึงกับบอกว่าจะโขมย Android จาก google มาเป็นของตัวเอง (ซึ่งน่าจะทำใด้เพราะ Android โดนแพเร็วมาก) ซึ่งก็มีตัวช่วยให้ติดตั้งง่ายอย่าง cyanogen installer เตรียมเอาไว้แล้ว

แผนการยังไม่ทันขยับ ไม่นาน oneplus ก็ license เอา rom ไปไช้ cyanogen เปลี่ยนซื่อเป็น cyanogen inc แล้วก็มีปัญหาเรื่อง exclusive ในอินเดียจน oneplus ไม่ไช้ ปลายทาง ผู้ก่อตั้ง Steve Kondik ก็ย้ายมาทำ LineageOS ส่วน cyanogen inc ก็หยุดให้ download rom

(จะว่าไป วิสัยทัศน์จาก CM รุ่งๆ ทำจนดับได้ ก็น่าจะพิจารณาตัวเองหน่อยนะ)
