จากข่าวเก่าที่เป็น RC ตอนนี้ Mozilla ปล่อย Firefox 2.0 Beta1 ออกมาแล้ว (ข่าวจาก Mozilla developer news ออกมาตั้งแต่ 12/07/06 แล้ว) โดย feature ใหม่ (และที่ได้รับการแก้บัก) ใน milestone นี้ได้แก่
- Built in Phishing Protection (ใน alpha เคยเปิดหน้า phishing แล้วกลายเป็นหน้าว่าง ตอนนี้ไม่รู้เป็นไง)
- Search suggestions now appear with search history in the search box for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com
- Changes to tabbed browsing behavior
- Ability to re-open accidentally closed tabs (เยี่ยมมาก ปิดผิดบ่อย)
- Better support for previewing and subscribing to web feeds
- Inline spell checking in text boxes
- Search plugin manager for removing and re-ordering search engines
- New microsummaries feature for bookmarks
- Automatic restoration of your browsing session if there is a crash
- New combined and improved Add-Ons manager for extensions and themes
- New Windows installer based on Nullsoft Scriptable Install System
- Support for JavaScript 1.7
- Support for client-side session and persistent storage
- Extended search plugin format
- Updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions
- Support for SVG text using svg:textPath

ใจจริงแล้วอยากให้จับเอาี feature บางอย่างที่มีใน addon ดังๆ หลายๆ ตัว build รวมกันลงใน firefox เลยอ่ะ (เหมือนกับ Opera9) เพราะมันจะทำให้ผู้ใช้ไม่ต้องลง addon เยอะเกินไป (ซึ่งผมสันนิษฐานว่าเป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้ firefox กินแรมเยอะ) เช่น flashgot, mouse gesture, FTP, ฯลฯ
ขอมากไปมั้ยเนี่ย?

ผมคิดกลับกันแฮะ ผมว่าหลายๆ อย่างควรจะเอาออกไปเป็น Extension Bundle มากับ Firefox ดีกว่า อย่าง Spellcheck ผมไม่เห็นความสำคัญขนาดที่ต้องยัดลงไปตรงๆ ใน Firefox...
เท่าที่ผมนึกออก Extension เดียวที่ติดมากับ Firefox ก็คือ Talkback... ที่รันทีไร FF ค้างทุกที

ผมว่าไม่เกี่ยวกับ extension นะที่บริโภค ram เคยลง ff เพียวๆ ก็กินเยอะเหมือนกัน

มีบั้กอายุ 2 ปีตัวหนึ่งเกี่ยวกับการพิมพ์ยังไม่ถูกแก้ จนถึงทุกวันนี้ ก็หวังว่าเขาจะแก้มันไปพร้อมๆ กับ ACID2 นะครับ

จนตอนนี้ยัง build โดยให้ใช้ pango ไม่ผ่านเลยอะ T-T
แต่ทดสอบแล้ว รู้สึกเหมือนมันเร็วกว่า alpha3 แฮะ แล้วหน้า anti-phishing ก็ไม่ค้างแล้วด้วย ส่วนเรื่องการเปิด tab ที่ปิดผิดไปใหม่นั้น ถือว่าทำได้เยี่ยมมาก ได้ใช้ประโยชน์เรื่องนี้เต็มๆ ระหว่างที่ยังไม่ชินกับปุ่มปิดที่แต่ละ tab (ตรงนี้ปรับให้ใช้แบบเก่าก็ได้ แต่ไม่เท่ห์)
แต่ extension ที่เคยใช้กับ alpha3 ได้กลับใช้กับ b1 ไม่ได้แฮะ o_O

anti-phishing เครื่องผมช้ามากเลยครับ กว่าจะแสดงไอ้บอลลูนนั้นขึ้นมาได้
ส่วนตัว external feed handler ลองกับอันที่เป็นโปรแกรมในเครื่อง อย่าง Straw หรือ Liferea กลับไม่เวิร์ค (แต่ Bloglines เวิร์คนะ)

oakyman - ผมลง Extension เสริมใน Firefox 1.5 ก็ทำทั้งสองอย่างได้เหมือนกันครับ
