แอปเปิลเลื่อนเส้นตาย แอพที่ขายใน Mac App Store ต้องทำงานโหมด Sandbox

หลังจาก Mac OS X เจอโทรจัน/มัลแวร์หลายตัวในช่วงหลัง (แมคไม่มีไวรัส?) ทางแอปเปิลก็ปรับข้อกำหนดให้แอพที่จะขายบนร้านออนไลน์ Mac App Store จะต้องทำงานในโหมด sandbox เพื่อจำกัดขอบเขตความเสียหาย ในกรณีที่แอพมีปัญหาด้านความปลอดภัย

เดิมทีแอปเปิลกำหนดเส้นตายไว้ที่เดือนพฤศจิกายนนี้ แต่ก็ตัดสินใจเลื่อนเป็นเดือนมีนาคม 2012 ด้วยเหตุผลว่านักพัฒนายังไม่พร้อม

Mac OS X ไม่ได้ออกแบบให้มีระบบ sandbox มาตั้งแต่แรก (iOS มีตั้งแต่แรก) ถึงแม้แอปเปิลจะค่อยๆ เพิ่มความสามารถและ API มาในรุ่นหลังๆ แต่ก็ยังมีเสียงต่อต้านจากนักพัฒนาแอพเดิมๆ อยู่บ้าง เพราะจะทำให้แอพเสียฟีเจอร์บางส่วนไป ตัวอย่างแอพที่นักพัฒนาออกมาบ่นเรื่องนี้ได้แก่ BBEdit และ Transmit (อย่างไรก็ตาม แอพพวกนี้ยังสามารถลงแบบปกติ ไม่ต้องผ่าน Mac App Store ได้)

สำหรับผู้ใช้ทั่วไป การลงแอปจาก Mac App Store การันตีได้ในระดับนึงว่า ไม่โดนมัลแวร์หรือไวรัสง่าย ๆ ถ้าไม่ไปซนเอง ก็เป็นระบบที่ดีนะ ถ้าเปิดกว้างมันจะอันตราย ก็ปิดมันซะ ปัญหาลดลงไปเยอะ ส่วนถ้าพวกที่ไปลงเองข้างนอก จะแครก จะแฮกอะไร พวกนั้นก็มีความรู้ในระดับนึงเรื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ ก็ป้องกันปัญหาเรื่องไวรัสกันเอาเอง คล้ายกับ iOS ที่เจลกับไม่เจล
