Activision Blizzard ออกมาเผยสถิติรายได้ของเกม Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II ช่วง 3 วันแรกที่เปิดขาย (เริ่มขาย 28 ต.ค.) ทำเงินไปได้ 800 ล้านดอลลาร์ กลายเป็นสถิติใหม่ของแฟรนไชส์ ทำลายสถิติเดิมของ Modern Warfare 3 ที่ทำไว้ในปี 2011 (800 ล้านดอลลาร์เท่ากัน ใช้เวลา 5 วัน)

ตัวเลขรายได้ 800 ล้านดอลลาร์ในช่วง 3 วันแรก ยังถือเป็นสถิติสูงสุดของแฟรนไชส์ความบันเทิงทุกประเภทในปี 2022 (เป็น the highest grossing entertainment opening โดยยอดขายเกมแซงหนังมานานแล้ว) ถ้าเอายอดรายได้ของภาพยนตร์ Top Gun: Maverick กับ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ช่วง 3 วันแรกมารวมกัน ยังแพ้ Modern Warfare II ด้วยซ้ำ

Activision ยังมีแผนทำเงินต่อเนื่องอีกมาก เกมเล่นฟรี Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 จะออกวันที่ 16 พฤศจิกายนนี้ และในปีหน้า 2023 จะมีเนื้อหาอัพเดตอื่นๆ ของ Modern Warfare II ตามมาอีก

เห็นรายได้ของแฟรนไชส์ Call of Duty แล้ว อาจไม่ต้องแปลกใจที่ Activision แทบไม่ทำเกมอื่นอีกแล้ว และโอนทุกสตูดิโอในเครือมาช่วยกันทำ Call of Duty อย่างเดียว

ตรงวรรค "ยังถือเป็นสถิติสูงสุดของแฟรนไชส์ความบันเทิงทุกประเภท" นี่ต้องเติมคำว่า "ของปีนี้" ไปด้วยนะ ในเว็บต้นฉบับก็ใช้คำว่า "of the year" (จาก VGC) "of 2022" (จาก Activision) ซึ่งถ้าจะเคร่งครัดจริงๆ ปี 2022 ยังไม่หมด ไม่แน่ Black Panther ภาคสอง หรือ Avatar ภาคสองอาจกวาดรายได้ในสามวันแรกเยอะกว่า 800 ล้านเหรียญก็ได้ (แต่เป็นไปได้น้อย)
ส่วนถ้าจะเทียบแบบ of all time เกมนี้จะได้ที่สอง เป็นรอง Avengers: Endgame ที่ได้ 1.2 พันล้านเหรียญ
