พบกันทุก 6 เดือนกับ GNOME เวอร์ชันใหม่ รอบนี้เลขเวอร์ชันวิ่งไปถึง GNOME 3.26 โดยใช้โค้ดเนมว่า Manchester ตามสถานที่ประชุมของนักพัฒนาประจำเวอร์ชัน

ของใหม่ในเวอร์ชันนี้ได้แก่

  • ปรับปรุงระบบค้นหาของเดสก์ท็อป แสดงข้อมูลได้เยอะขึ้น และค้นหาคำสั่งของระบบเดสก์ท็อป (system actions) เช่น power off, log out ได้ด้วย
  • แอพตั้งค่า Settings ปรับหน้าตาใหม่ แสดงหมวดหมู่การตั้งค่าใน sidebar ด้านซ้ายมือ (ของเดิมเป็นไอคอนเรียงๆ กัน)
  • ปรับหน้าจอ Display Settings ใหม่ เพิ่มตัวเลือก scaling สำหรับหน้าจอความละเอียดสูง
  • Emoji แสดงผลแบบ full-color และเพิ่มวิธีการป้อน emoji แบบใหม่ๆ หลายอย่าง
  • เว็บเบราว์เซอร์ GNOME Web จะสามารถซิงก์ข้อมูลกับ Firefox Sync ได้

ฟีเจอร์ของ GNOME 3.26 อาจเปลี่ยนแปลงไม่มาก แต่รุ่นนี้มีความสำคัญตรงที่จะเป็น GNOME รุ่นแรกที่ Ubuntu ย้ายกลับมาใช้งาน

มีใครใช้ Linux "ที่บ้าน" เป็นประจำบ้างครับ เดี๋ยวนี้ Linux เล่นเกมได้ดีถึงระดับไหนแล้ว ?

ผมสงสัยว่าผ่านมาหลายปีก็แล้ว ตอนนี้ Linux สำหรับผู้ใช้งานทั่วไปดีเทียบเท่า Windows 7 ในสมัยก่อนได้แล้วหรือยัง โดยเฉพาะประเด็นด้านการเล่นเกม

ก่อนที่ DOTA2 จะซัพพอร์ทลินุกซ์ เห็นมีคนเล่นผ่าน Wine อยุบ้างนะครับ เห็นว่าเล่นได้จริง แจ่ไม่รู้ดีขนาดไหน

ผมเคยใช้ประจำจนถึงสักหกเดือนก่อนครับ พอดีว่าสถานการณ์บางอย่างบังคับเลยต้องลง Windows แทน (ซอฟต์แวร์ที่ใช้ทำงานบางตัวไม่มีบน Linux)

ถ้าเรื่องเล่นเกมผมว่า... ปัจจัยหลักน่าจะเป็นจำนวนเกมบน Steam ซึ่งผมก็ไม่ชัวร์ว่ามากน้อยแค่ไหนแล้วตอนนี้ (แต่คิดว่ายังน้อย) แล้วก็เข้าใจว่ายังมีปัญหาการคอนฟิกเกมอยู่จำนวนหนึ่ง

แต่ถ้าใช้งานทั่วไปก็พอ ๆ กับ Windows 7 ละครับ ไม่ได้หมายความว่าใช้งานได้เหมือน W7 เพราะว่า DE แต่ละตัวก็มีแนวทางการออกแบบของตัวเอง อย่าง Gnome 3 จะใกล้เคียงกับพวก Mobile OS มากกว่า แต่ส่วนตัวมองว่าก็ไม่ได้ใช้ลำบากกว่า W7 สักเท่าไหร่ครับ

ปล. แต่ผมใช้ Arch Linux ที่ต้องคอนฟิกเองระดับนึง ก็เลยลำบากกว่า W7 แน่ ๆ ถ้าใช้ distro สำเร็จก็ไม่ต้องทำอะไรวุ่นวายครับ

ถ้าเกมที่พอร์ทมา ถือว่าเล่นได้ในระดับเดียวกันเลยครับ อาจจะยากตอนเซ็ทอัพไดรเวอร์การ์ดจอครั้งแรก แต่นอกนั้นโอเคหมดครับ

ข้อเสียที่ทำให้ผมใช้ไม่ได้คือ เปิด iTunes ฟังเพลงไม่ได้ :(
