Some things not to do:

  1. Don't come here looking for a "job". If you became an engineer because your mom told you to in college and don't live to do this stuff don't bother. You'll be wasting your time and ours. We do this kind of stuff for fun and, while we enjoy getting paid, it's as much because this means we don't have to go get a job somewhere else to be able to afford to do this fun stuff as it is for the money. (Don't worry - we pay competitive salaries and benefits!)

  2. Don't put stuff on your resume you can't back up in a technical interview. If you say you know C++ and can't write a basic C++ class on our white board then you've lost a lot of credibility. Either remove it from the resume you send us or refresh your knowledge before showing up for an interview.

  3. Don't think your importance depends on how many people you manage. If you're a manager you'll manage people. But we have real technical career paths here so, if you want to stay technical, you'll have the same (or better) pay, title, responsibilities & matched authority as a similar level manager. There is no glass ceiling for technical talent here.

  4. Don't worry about how old you are, what sex you are, what your education background is or any other things not directly relevant to what we're asking for above. We just want the best people and we know how to identify them once we meet them. If you've got the drive and the talent, we're interested.

  5. Don't be a recruiting agency submitting resumes to us without first getting approval to submit each individual by that person and us. Any non-approved resumes submitted to us we will consider as "freely available" and we may hire them without any fee. Frankly, unless you have someone that really knocks our socks off and can demonstrate clearly how you technically evaluate your candidates, it is unlikely that we will grant approval to most agencies. Sorry - this is not the recruiting opportunity you are looking for.

  6. Don't hesitate to contact us even if you don't think you're ready to change your job. It never hurts to talk and see how things fit - even if only for future consideration. Come talk to us and I think you'll be surprised at how different this industry can be.

These are the kind of FUN and challenging systems that our team works on every day.

Primary opportunities that we need to take on right now include:

  1. Systems Infrastructure Development
    Help build ours' and our clients' network and systems infrastructure. Primarily need strong Linux/*Bsd/Unix abilities but will also deal with some Windows and OS/X. Strong networking skills and building highly scalable, resilient web services is a primary focus. Supporting our continuous integration/development model is critical as well so supporting remote management, subversion and git SCS, build-bots, VOIP, smart load balancers/routers/proxies, etc...

  2. Systems Analysis/QA Management
    We do not employ teams of testers mindlessly walking through the same test case day in day out. We employ test driven strategies where our analysts/testers are involved in the design, development, and deployment of the full lifecycle. You will learn/develop automated test systems and work closely with customers on defining their features and requirements. Think of being a product manager who implements their specifications in code on top of custom tools and you'll have a general idea of the concept.

  3. Software Designers/Developers
    We focus on Open tools and languages. Primarily that means Python, C++, Java, and javascript here but we dabble in lots of languages like perl, ABAP, ruby, forth, assembly, C#, etc... Frameworks include Django, Turbo Gears, SAP, Flex/Windchill, Quixote, Dojo, and others. We do just about every relational and some OODBMS out there but primarily focus on PostgreSQL of which we are the press contact for SE Asia. We feel that it is important to have a good exposure to multiple approaches like imperative, functional, and object-oriented techniques and across disparate platforms. One thing's for sure - if you join Proteus, you're gonna learn python. :)

  4. Business Development/Sales
    If you know how to make a case for a strong technical team to the business community and want a chance to have the best technical team behind you, get in touch. You will be expected to learn our Agile process but will quickly find it is a great selling tool as well as our customers love it and it clearly differentiates us from the competition.

  5. Secretary/Support
    We need SMART, very customer friendly internal and external secretarial and support people. While all our positions require good written and passable verbal English, these positions require strong written and oral English skills (other languages are a bonus as well including Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Dutch, and German). Main attributes are being strongly disciplined, excellent follow-through, and not afraid to take action. You will commonly take notes/minutes, follow-up on action items and ensure that stakeholders are properly briefed on a frequent basis. You will be every bit as important on our team as dev, test, and pms and are not considered a 2nd class participant.

  6. Interns
    We always need fresh young creative minds here and provide internship opportunities that will expose you to the real work of Proteus Technologies. It's a great opportunity to learn things they'll never teach you in school and see if this is the kind of place you might want to work long term.
