Paul vanEijl, founder of TowRai, left the world of consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and investment banking at Lehman Brothers to pursue his passion of being an entrepreneur and went on to launch the online shopping mall, Lazada in Thailand. From there he founded MOXYST.com, the online lifestyle shop. Moxy was founded in 2013 by Paul vanEijl as a Bangkok-based lifestyle online shopping experience. At the beginning of this year he sold his company to WhatsNew, a Thai ecommerce conglomerate backed by Ardent Capital.
With the sale of MOXY behind him, Paul set out to help support the over 2.5 million SME owners in Thailand, who have aspirations of getting their products recognized and sold in the online world. One of the most beloved items to buy in Thailand is food. “Our lives revolve around food”, Paul says, “and that is an area in online shopping that is very underserved”. Sure you can order from restaurants, but the many vendors that sell everything from artisan sausages to fresh made granola and Almond Milk don’t have a lot of choice when it comes to promoting and selling their finely created products. TowRai now offers them a way to receive greater exposure and additional support to sell their quality products.
Moving forward, TowRai will continue to add merchants who wish to have another sales channel to promote their products. With over 300 products currently being offered TowRai aims to offer over 5,000 products by the 1st quarter of 2016, becoming the largest neighborhood online grocery in Thailand.
