ถ้าผม ทำเว็บที่มี javascript แล้วทดสอบแต่กับ ie, firefox, แต่ไม่ทดสอบกะ safari, ผมสมควรโดนด่าปะ?
ก็ใครอยากเปิดเว็บผมได้, ก็ไป load firefox มาลงดิ, มันฟรีนิ. ใครใช้ kubuntu ก็ aptitude install firefox เอาดิ.

ส่วนมากถ้าเป็น javascript firefox ใช้ได้ safari ก็ใช้ได้ เพราะว่า ใช้มาตรฐานเดียวกัน
ยกเว้น ie เจ้าเดียวที่ต่างจากชาวบ้าน

ในอนาคต เมื่อ firefox & safari เรนเดอร์ และรันสคริปด้วยมาตรฐานเดียวกันสมบูรณ์ ก็ไม่จำเป็นต้องเทสทั้งสองตัวอีกต่อไปครับ
(แต่ถ้าไม่เกินกำลัง ก็เทสไว้ไม่เสียกหาย)

Safari นี่เหมือนจะยังเป็นรอง Firefox นะครับ ดังนั้นถ้าทดสอบบน Safari ผ่านก็น่าจะอนุมานได้ว่า Firefox ผ่านด้วย

มีบางอันที่ผมต้องใช้ extension พิเศษของ firefox, เช่น html editor. ที่เวลาเขียน email ใน gmail แล้วมันทำ richtext edit ได้หนะ. อันนั้นคงจะใช้ความสามารถของ html editor ของ firefox ซึ่งไม่ใช่ w3c standard. แต่รู้สึกว่า safari จะมา implement html editor ตามมาภายหลังอีก.
อีกอันคือ xmlhttp object ของ firefox, ตัวนี้ก็ไม่ standard. XMLHttp object ของ firefox มันเลียนแบบมาจาก XMLHttp ActiveX object ของ ie อีกที, เอ้า, เวรจริงๆ. แล้วรู้สึกว่า safari ก็มา implement XMLHttp ตามมาทีหลังแล้วด้วย, เอ้า, เอาเข้าไป. ไม่มีใคร เคารพ standard แล้วเฟ่ย - -'

(ชี้แจง) พอดีว่า ตัดมาจาก ที่ chat เอาไว้ที่อื่น, ก็เลยอาจจะอ่านไม่รู้เรื่องหน่อย. แปลกจัง, ภาษา chat กะ ภาษาเว็บบอร์ด นี่มันต่างกันแฮะ.

โดยปกติถ้าเจอแบบนี้ solution ที่ผมว่าเวิร์คหน่อยก็คงเป็นวิธีการใช้ wrapper จะเขียนเอง หรือใช้ของคนอื่น (ที่มีแจกมากมาย) ก็ได้ แล้วชีวิตจะสบายขึ้นมาก

ถ้าเป็นเว็บของตัวเอง อยากทำอะไร ก็ทำได้ครับ ไม่ต้องสนใคร
แต่ถ้าทำเว็บให้ลูกค้า แล้วเค้ามีลูกค้าของเค้าที่ใช้ safari แล้วใช้งานไม่ได้ อันนี้ คุณโดนลูกค้าด่าแน่ ที่จริง test กับ safari ไม่มีอะไรยุ่งยากมากหรอกครับ ถ้าพยายามใช้แต่ standard ปัญหามันมักจะลงไปที่ IE มากกว่า เคยมีลูกค้า เค้าใช้ mac os9 + IE 5.0 ดูผลงานเรา ปวดหมองไปเกืิอบอาทิตย์เต็มๆ สุดท้ายก็แก้ไม่ได้ ต้องใช้วิธีชี้แจงกับลูกค้าเอา ประมาณว่า เครื่องคุณมันเก่าแล้ว เปลี่ยนใหม่เหอะ :-)
