Job Description: Web Developer/Programmer
Summary
We are searching for an outstanding web developer to fill a permanent position with an ambitious startup. You will be responsible for developing innovative, reusable Web-based tools and web sites for progressive online activism and community building. You will work closely with our project managers, strategists and design team members to develop specifications and make recommendations on the use of new and emerging technologies. You must be able to monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies as necessary. Must have extensive experience developing Drupal-based websites and portals and understand community-based approaches to design. Programming, graphic design and database administration are all elements of this position.
Responsibilities
Work closely with Project Managers and other members of the Development Team to both develop detailed specification documents with clear project deliverables and timelines, and to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
Produce project estimates and total number of development hours required.
Work with Project Managers to build and refine graphic designs for website. Must have strong skills in Photoshop and Illustrator.
Convert raw images and layouts from a graphic designer into CSS/XHTML themes.
Determine appropriate architecture, and other technical solutions, and make relevant recommendations to project team.
Communicate to the Project Manager with efficiency and accuracy any progress and/or delays.
Engage in outside-the-box thinking to provide high value-of-service to the company.
Alert colleagues to emerging technologies or applications and the opportunities to integrate them into operations and activities.
Be actively involved in and contribute regularly to the development of the CMS.
Develop innovative, reusable Web-based tools for activism and community building.
Required Skills
BS or higher in computer science
Have creativity, imagination and initiative
Be adaptable and quick to pick up new techniques
Excellent English verbal and written skills
3 years minimum experience with HTML/XHTML, HTML 5, JAVA Script and CSS
3 years minimum Web programming experience with PHP and LAMP Stacks
3 years minimum experience working with relational database systems such as MySQL and a good working
knowledge of SQL
Highly proficient in Drupal
Experience with SEO optimization, Google Analytics and Social Media integration
Experience developing and implementing open source software projects
Self-starter with strong self-management skills
Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
