Job Description
We are looking for a system administrator who will be responsible for all system, server and network topics within the company and report directly to the CEO.
Technical Abilities, Skills and Experience
- Our company primarily runs on Ubuntu machines, so you will need to have experience with UNIX systems and installing, maintaining and troubleshooting a network of Linux-based clients and servers. Experience with Ubuntu or other Debian-based distributions is a plus.
- You will be responsible for the reliable operation of our network and thus need to be able to administer BIND and DHCP services. A solid understanding of network security is also essential.
- Monitoring, testing and improving the company's on and off-site backup procedures and storage
- Possessing scripting know-how (Bash, Pearl) is not a must but would come in very handy in automating tasks
- In order to support developers working in PHP and Django environments, you should know how to handle an apache server as well as a MySQL database server
- Since we are using Git as a version control system, having past experience with it would be great
- While Windows and other Linux distributions (Archlinux) don't play a major role in our systems architecture, it would be beneficial if you know your way around them as well
- Our company takes advantage of a lot of other open source products, including Wordpress, Mediawiki, MantisBT, OpenOffice, OSTicket – in case you have worked with any of these in the past, please don't forget to include it in your resume
- If you have previous experience setting up a virtual private network (VPN), or a mail server, that would be beneficial.
Additional Abilities, Skills and Experience
- Given the broad responsibilities and significant independence with which you will be working in, initiative, self-organization and reliability are absolutely essential.
- In order to cooperate with other departments, you should have excellent written and oral communication skills
- As a problem-solver, continuous learning should come to you naturally.
