หลังจากช่วงนี้มีข่าวเรื่อง SEO ก็เลยไปอ่าน Webmaster Guidelines ของ Google มีข้อนึงที่ทำให้ผมสงสัยคือ Avoid hidden text or hidden links สงสัยว่าถ้าใช้แล้วมีผลอะไรกับ GoogleBot อย่างหลายๆ web site อาจจะมีการใช้ effect แล้วซ่อน text ไว้ก่อน หรือ text บางอย่างจะแสดงเมื่อทำการ print ทาง printer โดยปกติผมและหลายๆคน ก็ใช้ CSS ควบคุมให้ซ่อนไว้ก่อน ถ้าจะหลีกเลี่ยงวิธีนี้ ใช้วิธีไหนกันครับ

เข้าใจว่า ถ้าเป็นในกรณีของ text replacement หรือ effect, menu จะเข้าข่ายอนุโลมให้นะครับ คือถ้าไม่ได้เจตนา เอาข้อความซักย่อหน้า สองย่อหน้า ไปยัดใส่ div แล้ว display: none ก็คงไม่เป็นไร
ส่วนผลกระทบ.. ก็คงไม่ได้กระทบอะไรมาก แค่เค้าเกรงว่าสิ่งที่บอทเห็น กับคนเห็นจะไม่เหมือนกัน (ซึ่งทำให้ความพึงพอใจข้อผู้ใช้ search engine ลดลง) คาดว่าเป็นเช่นนั้นแล...
ปล. ธีมรูปแบบใหม่ใน exteen ก็ใช้ text replacement ทั้งนั้นเลย ผมก็ไม่ค่อยเข้าใจเหมือนกันว่ามันต่างกับ img alt="" ยังไง เหอๆ

ผมว่าที่เขาให้ละเว้น hidden text นี่น่าจะหมายถึงตัวหนังสือที่ซ่อนจากสายตาผู้ใช้ตรงๆ มากกว่ามั้งครับ ถ้าหากซ่อนไว้เพื่อให้ replacement ด้วยกราฟฟิคที่แทนกันได้ มันไม่ควรจะเป็นเรื่องให้สนใจ ส่วนซ่อนลิงค์นี่ ตอนนี้ยังนึกกรณีไม่ออกเลย ว่าปกติแล้วมันจำเป็นต้องซ่อนอะไร (ถ้าหากไม่ใช่ใช้ 1x1 เพื่อหวังผลทาง SEO)
ส่วนเรื่อง text replacement กับ
<img />(แล้วซ่อน text ไว้ใน span ข้างหลังภาพนั้นๆ, etc.) นี่ผมเข้าใจว่าในแง่ของ SEO ไม่น่าจะมีผลอะไรเท่าไหร่ (นับเฉพาะซ่อนไว้เพื่อเอากราฟฟิคที่แทนกันได้มาแทน) แต่ถ้าคิดในแง่ของ semantic HTML แล้ว เป็นสิ่งที่ไม่น่าทำเท่าไหร่ เพราะ<img />ควรจะใช้กับข้อมูลภาพแท้ๆ (เช่นภาพถ่าย) มากกว่าส่วนของหน้าตาเว็บที่ใช้ซ่อ

ที่ใช้ซ่อน link ก็เช่น user จะ flag video, comment ที่ user อื่น post ไว้ ก็ต้อง login ก่อน (เป็น Ajax) พอ login เสร็จ flag ที่เป็น link ก็ fade เข้ามาอะไรแบบนี้อ่ะครับ ส่วนเรื่อง alt ใน img เข้าใจว่ามีประโยชน์กับโปรแกรมช่วยอ่านสำหรับคนตาบอดมั้งครับ เพราะ attribute มัน relate กับ img เลย จริงๆ hidden text ผมว่า robot น่าจะ detect ได้ไม่อยากนะครับ คำนวณตำแหน่งของ text กับ background จาก DOM และ CSS (คล้ายๆ Drag & Drop ของ Mootools) แล้วพิจารณาสีบวกช่วงของสีที่คล้ายกันอีกหน่อย สงสัยว่ามี robot ของ search engine เจ้าไหนทำได้บ้างหรือป่าวครับ พอมาคิดดูอีกที ที่ไม่ทำเป็นเพราะบางที content ยาวๆ อาจจะต้อง hide ไว้หรือป่าวครับ เช่นใช้พวก Accordion หรือ Slide เพื่อซ่อน content ซึ่งต้องใช้ visibility เพื่อให้ compatible ใน IE6, 7 และ Firefox
