Description

The Bachelor of Information Systems gives you an understanding of the technical and human issues in the development and use of information systems in an organisational context. You learn how to work in teams that create, manage and use information systems in a number of ways.

The course covers a wide range of topics including electronic commerce, knowledge management, telecommunications, multimedia, databases and organisational processes, and analysis and change.

Structure

Over the three years, students undertake a core of 18 subjects leading to an industrial project in the final year. Subjects cover topics including software development, databases, telecommunications concepts, electronic commerce, application environments and systems analysis and design, as well as management, organisational processes, analysis and change, and legal and ethical issues. Students also choose from a range of elective subjects including information systems, computer science, economics and commerce, a language study, or any other area of interest.

Students complete three early electives and three later-year electives. Students may choose electives which complement their studies in information systems. Alternatively, electives may be taken from other areas of study so that students are exposed to a broad range of subject areas. Areas of particular specialisation include electronic commerce, multimedia, systems analysis and design, telecommunications, databases and knowledge management, security, mobile technologies, systems and information management.
