ผมว่า debian ก็เข้าท่าครับ อัพเดดง่ายเพราะมี apt-get แล้วก็เสถียรมาก แต่กว่าจะออกเวอร์ชั่นใหม่ ก็ต้องรอเป็นปีครับ

Debian ด้วยเหตุผลที่เคยพูดไปแล้วคือ คุณสามารถสั่งให้มัน Security Update ตอนกลางดึกได้โดยไม่ต้องกลัวว่าตื่นมาแล้วเซิฟเวอร์คุณจะล่มเพราะอัพเดทหรือไม่

เห็นด้วยกับคุณ sirn ครับ จริง ๆ ผมก็ชอบ gentoo นะครับ แต่มันเหมาะสำหรับเป็น Desktop หรือไม่ก็ experimental Box มากกว่า ข้อดีของ gentoo ที่เหนือกว่า debian คือความสดใหม่ กับ Performance (gentoo เร็วกว่า debian ประมาณ 10-20% อันนี้ทดลองด้วยตัวเอง เฉพาะการคำนวนทางคณิตศาสตร์ กับ Simulation นะครับ ไม่ใช่ Realworld-Application)
แต่ทั้งสองอย่าง สำหรับ Webserver แล้วมันไม่สำคัญเท่าความเสถียร และความปลอดภัยครับ
Performance ของ Webserber มันขึ้นอยู่กับอะไรหลาย ๆ อย่าง โดยเฉพาะ RAM กับ Network ส่วน CPU กับ OS มีผลน้อยมากครับ (แต่หากใช้ Windows นี่ มีผลเยอะครับ มันจะช้าลงอย่างเห็นได้ชัด)

เรื่อง Distro

เรื่อง Distro ไม่น่าจะแตกต่างกันมากในเชิงการทำงานถ้า admin คนนั้นแข็ง ๆ มักไม่ดูเรื่อง plugin เท่าไหร่ครับ มันขึ้นอยู่กับเราปรับแต่งมากกว่า และ Distro บางตัวก็มี plugin เสริมให้เราดูแลระบบได้ง่ายขึ้นได้งานมากขึ้น ปวดหัวน้อยลง ส่วนใหญ่ที่เจอมักใช้ FreeBSD กันเยอะ ลองๆ ลงมาก็ Fedora กับ Redhat นะ (ผมไม่ยืนยันข้อมูลส่วนกลางเท่าไหร่ เพราะนี่คือที่ผมเจอมา) ส่วน Distro ตัวอื่น ๆ ก็มีบ้างนิดหน่อย
ซึ่งการทำ Web Server นี่ I/O สำคัญมาก ๆ ครับ ถ้าปรับแต่ง OS และ Plug-in อื่น ๆ จนมีความเสถียรภาพสูงแล้วยังรับไม่ไหวนี่ ต้อง upgrade I/O แล้วหล่ะครับ ยิ่งมี DB ที่เก็บข้อมูลขนาดใหญ่ไว้นี่ H/D ใช้ SCSI ได้จะเป็นการดี ถ้าเงินถึงก็ใส่ RAID ไปด้วยเลย น่าจะช่วยได้เยอะ

FreeBSD ก็ดีครับ ใช้จน Power Supply พังไปแล้ว มัีนยังไม่เคยเป็นอะไร และไม่เคยงอแงแม้แต่แอะเดียว ผมชอบมันจริง ๆ
