GIF ออกเสียงว่า "จิ๊บ" ไม่ใช่ "กิ๊บ"

GIF

GIF หรือ Graphics Interchange Format เป็นไฟล์ภาพเคลื่อนไหวที่เป็นที่นิยมในปัจจุบัน ซึ่งชื่อไฟล์ GIF ก็ได้เป็นคำแห่งปี (word of the year) ในปี 2012 ผู้สร้างไฟล์ GIF นั้นคือ Steve Wilhite ได้รับรางวัล lifetime achievement award จาก The Webby Awards เมื่อวานนี้ (21 พฤษภาคม 2013)

ขณะที่สร้างไฟล์ GIF นั้น Wilhite ทำงานอยู่ที่ CompuServe (เป็น ISP ของสหรัฐฯ) โดยกำเนิดแล้ว ไฟล์ GIF นั้นสร้างขึ้นโดยมีจุดประสงค์เพื่อใช้ในบริษัทในการแสดงผลภาพ เช่น สีในแผนที่อุตุนิยมวิทยา โดยไฟล์ GIF ไฟล์แรกนั้นเป็นรูปเครื่องบินกระดาษที่เคลื่อนไหวได้ 10 กว่าปีให้หลังจากที่ Wilhite เกษียณจากการทำงาน เขาก็ยังได้รับคำชื่นชมในการสร้างไฟล์นี้อยู่ แต่เขาก็มีสิ่งหนึ่งที่ต้องอธิบายให้กระจ่างนั่นก็คือการออกเสียงของชื่อไฟล์ เขาจึงใช้เวทีของ The Webby Awards ในการบอกว่า "มันออกเสียงว่า จิ๊บ ไม่ใช่ กิ๊บ"

Gift ถือเป็นคำยกเว้นในกรณีนี้ และเป็นคำที่คนอเมริกันใช้บ่อยกว่าคำว่า 'Giraffe' หรือ 'analoGy' และหรือ 'German' ดังนั้นผมจึง อิมเมกิ้น.. ขออภัย อิมเมจิ้นเอาเองว่าทำให้คนทั่วไปอ่านว่ากิ๊ฟด้วยนั่นเอง

อ่านถูกคืออ่านถูก อ่านผิดก็คืออ่านผิด ไม่เข้าใจทำไมบางคนไม่คิดแก้ ชอบนักอ่านกันผิดๆ เนี่ย ไม่รู้จักเรียนรู้และยอมสิ่งที่ถูก มันยากมากเหรอครับ การยอมรับสิ่งที่ถูกเนี่ย

ป.ล. ผมเคยอ่านว่า "กิ๊บ" แล้วแก้เป็น "จิ๊บ" เมื่อรู้ว่าสิ่งที่ถูกคืออะไร

เอ่อ มันไม่ใช่เรื่องที่ต้องซีเรียสขนาดนั้นครับ อีกอย่างเขาก็บอกแค่ว่าเขาออกเสียงคำที่ "เกิดจากการคิดค้นของเขา" ว่า จิ๊บ แต่ถ้าใครอ่านว่า กิ๊บ มันก็ไม่ผิด เพราะมันก็ออกเสียงแบบนั้นได้ แต่ถ้าใครจะอ่านว่า กิ๊บ เหมือนเดิมมันก็ให้ความหมายเดิม (เพราะมันใช้กันจนอยู่ในฐานที่เข้าใจได้แล้ว)

คำบางคำโดยเฉพาะคำที่เป็นชื่อเฉพาะที่ตั้งกันมาเอง เช่น ชื่อคน ชื่อองค์กร สิ่งประดิษฐ์ ฯลฯ คนอ่านมักจะให้เกียรติเรียกตามที่ผู้ตั้งออกไว้ก่อน แต่ถ้าจะอ่านตามหลักภาษาของตัวเองมันก็ไม่ผิดหนักหนาให้ต้องซีเรียสจนต้องไปต่อว่าคนอื่นแบบนี้ครับ
