หลังจากมีเสียงร่ำลือมานาน (1Up.com บอกว่าข่าวนี้เป็น "The worst-kept secret in the videogames industry") ไมโครซอฟท์ก็ออก Xbox 360 Elite มาแข่งกับ PS3

Xbox 360 Elite ไม่ได้มาแทน Xbox 360 รุ่น Core หรือ Premium แต่มาเป็นรุ่นที่สามไว้จับตลาดบนโดยเฉพาะ สิ่งหลักที่เพิ่มเข้ามาคือพอร์ต HDMI, เพิ่มขนาดฮาร์ดดิสก์จาก 20GB มาเป็น 120GB, ชุดหูฟัง, เปลี่ยนตัวเครื่องเป็นสีดำ ราคาที่ขายคือ 479.99 เหรียญ (เทียบกับรุ่น Premium 399.99 เหรียญ) การเพิ่มฮาร์ดดิสก์แบบมโหฬารรอบนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่าบริการ Xbox Live ประสบความสำเร็จพอตัวเลย

สิ่งที่น่าสนใจคือ Xbox 360 Elite ไม่ได้รวมไดรว์ HD DVD มาด้วย (เว็บไซต์ 1Up.com ทำตารางเปรียบเทียบให้ดู ถ้าจัดชุด PS3/Elite ที่มีสเปกใกล้เคียงกัน จะมีราคาไม่ต่างกันมาก ประมาณ 850 เหรียญ) นักวิเคราะห์มองว่าไมโครซอฟท์ยังไม่กล้าเลือกข้างฟอร์แมตของแผ่นดิสก์อย่างเต็มตัว และเป็นไปได้ที่จะออกไดรว์ Blu-ray ขายแยกสำหรับ Xbox 360

ส่วนเรื่อง format นี่คงเป็นข้อดีที่สามารถเลือก optical drive ภายหลังได้ ตลาดยิ่งคลุมไปใหญ่

ตัวเลขความต่างน่าจะเป็น ๗.๘๕ นะครับ ผมอ่านตอนแรกยังตกใจ เข้าใจว่าราคาห่างกัน๘๕๐เนี่ยนะไม่มาก ว่ากันว่าตอนแรกโซนี่เป็นฝ่ายออกมาเปรยก่อนว่าจะซอยถี่แบ่งรุ่นเพลย์สเตชั่น๓ ไปๆมาๆ ไมโครซอฟท์ชิงลงมือก่อน (ระวังออกมามากรุ่นมากตัวเลือกมากแล้วผู้บริโภคจะไม่เลือกเลยแบบข่าวล่างๆนะครับ ^^)
