FreeBSD 8.0 ออกแล้ว

หลังจากที่ออกรุ่น 7.0 (ข่าวเก่า) เมื่อเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ปีที่แล้ว และรุ่น 7.2 (ข่าวเก่า) เมื่อกลางปี ทีมวิศวกรของ FreeBSD ก็ได้ปล่อยรุ่น 8.0 ซึ่งเป็น Major release ออกมาแล้ว

โดยในรุ่นนี้ความสามารถเด่น ๆ ที่เพิ่มขึ้นมาก็คือ

  • สนับสนุน Virtualization container (การทำ Virtualization ระดับ OS) ใหม่ที่ชื่อ vimage ควบคู่ไปกับ Jails ซึ่งมีใช้มาตั้งแต่ 7.2
  • ระบบจัดการการกระจายแพกเก็ตในเครือข่าย (kernel network dispatch interface) ที่สนับสนุนการทำงานแบบขนานบนหน่วยประมวลผลกลางแบบหลายคอร์
  • ปรับปรุงรุ่นของระบบไฟล์แบบ ZFS ไปเป็นรุ่น 13
  • ระบบเครือข่ายไร้สายแบบใหม่ที่สนับสนุนการสร้าง BSS (basic service set) หลายตัว ทำให้การ์ดเครือข่ายไร้สายแบบ Wifi อันเดียว สามารถสร้างหลายอินเทอร์เฟตได้
  • ปรับปรุงรุ่นของซอฟท์แวร์เช่น Gnome เป็น 2.26.3 และ KDE เป็น 4.3.1

ที่เด่น ๆ ก็คงจะเป็น Virtualization container ที่ช่วยให้ FreeBSD สามารถถูกนำไปใช้ใน Cloud ได้ดีขึ้น และ network dispatcher ตัวใหม่ ที่สนับสนุนหน่วยประมวลผลกลางแบบหลายคอร์ ซึ่งก็เป็นแนวโน้นของระบบฮาร์ดแวร์ในยุคปัจจุบันนั่นเอง

ก็คงไม่คุ้นมั้ง เพราะ config ของ app ที่เราติดตั้งทั้งหมดอยู่ใน /usr/local/etc แต่ของระบบก็ยังอยู่ที่เดิม (/etc)

จะติดตั้งอะไรก็ต้องผ่าน ports collection หรือโหลด source มา compile เอง เกือบทั้งหมด ไม่มีมาให้แบบ binary หรืิอ package

แล้วจะเปิด service ไหนต้องไปเพิ่มที่ /etc/rc.conf editor ก็ vi (ผมไม่ใช้สักที) ส่วนตัวผมใช้ ee

Service ของ App ที่เราติดตั้งจะอยู่ที่ /etc/local/rc.d

ความไม่คุ้น มันจึงเหมือนยาก ผมย้ายมา Debian ก็ต้องปรับมากเหมือนกัน แต่บอกตามตรง Debian ง่ายกว่าเป็นไหนๆ

ต้องเข้าไปอ่าน comment ของคุณติ่งxxxx(ชื่อแกไม่สุภาพ) ซึ่งด่ากราดทุก OS ในเว็บ addict เอาไว้
ถึงขนาดที่ว่า Mr.Whisper อ่านแล้วยังฮา
