ต่อจากภาคแรก อนาคตที่ยังไม่ชัดเจนของ Qt ทีมงาน Qt ได้เขียนบล็อกชี้แจง 2 รอบดังนี้ครับ

รอบแรกอยู่ในบล็อกชื่อ Nokia new strategic direction. What is the future for Qt? สรุปใจความดังนี้

โนเกียจะยังขาย Symbian อีก 150 ล้านเครื่อง และ MeeGo รุ่นแรกในปีนี้ ทั้งสองระบบต้องการ Qt
โนเกียจะออก Qt Quick และ Qt SDK 1.1 ต่อไป ตอนนี้มีฐานนักพัฒนา 4 แสนราย
โนเกียเป็นแค่บริษัทเดียวในบริษัทนับหมื่นที่ใช้ Qt สำหรับงานต่างๆ
Qt จะพัฒนาต่อไป และทีมงานจะจ้างนักพัฒนา Qt ต่อไป

รอบที่สองคือบล็อกชื่อ Update on Qt เขียนโดย Aron Kozak เขาเล่าว่าได้เข้าฟังการประชุมภายในบริษัท, เข้าฟังงานแถลงข่าวของ Stephen Elop ที่ Mobilr World Congress และเข้าฟัง Nokia Developer Day ที่กล่าวเปิดโดย Rich Green (CTO ของโนเกีย)

เขาบอกว่าได้ "ถามคำถาม" กับบรรดาผู้บริหารของโนเกีย และได้คำตอบจาก Rich Green แบบเดียวกับบล็อกแรกคือ จะยังทำ Qt ต่อไป และนำไปใช้ใน Symbian อีก 150 ล้านเครื่องที่จะออกวางขาย

Aron Kozak บอกว่าตอนนี้สถานการณ์ยังไม่ชัดเจน แต่ก็ไม่ได้แย่อย่างที่เป็นข่าว และเขายืนยันว่า Qt จะยังพัฒนาต่อไป

ผมมองเรื่องนี้ว่า

ทีมงาน Qt ไม่มีโอกาสคุยกับผู้บริหารระดับสูงของโนเกียโดยตรง ต้องไปฟังตามงานแถลงข่าวหรือสัมมนาเหมือนคนอื่นๆ ทั่วไป
ผู้บริหารของโนเกียไม่ตอบอะไรนอกจาก Symbian/MeeGo และตัวเลขคนใช้ปัจจุบันของ Qt

แบบนี้ดูไม่ค่อยมีอนาคตเท่าไรในโนเกียครับ

ผู้บริหารยังไม่อยากรับปาก ยังไม่อยากตอบคำถามที่ลึกกว่านี้

ผมก็ว่ายังไม่ค่อยมีอนาคตเท่าไหร่นะ แต่ระยะเวลาก็ยากจะคาดเดา

ซิมเบียนจะเลิกขายแล้ว เท่ากับเลิกพัฒนา 150ล้านเครื่องที่ซื้อมาก็โดนปล่อยเกาะ ถ้าราคาไม่ถูกผมคงไม่ซื้อแน่อะ

150 ล้านเครื่อง ถ้าซื้อแล้วจะโดนปล่อยเกาะ ถ้าเครื่องละสองสามร้อยก็โออยู่นะ ;P

ปัญหาไม่ได้อยู่ที่ qt แต่อยู่ที่ nokia ต่างหาก
Qt น่าจะยังอยู่ไปอีกนาน ต่างกันแค่ใครจะเป็นเจ้าของเท่านั้นเอง
Qt เป็น C++ แบบ cross platform (qmake) ที่ดีมาก มาตั้งแต่สมัย Trolltech แล้ว
จำนวนนักพัฒนา qt บน platform อื่นนอกจาก symbian น่าจะเยอะอยู่มาก เพราะสามารถพัฒนาได้ตั้งแต่ desktop จนถึง embedded device
