Mark Shuttleworth ประกาศโค้ดเนมของ Ubuntu รุ่นหน้า 8.10 แล้วว่าชื่อ Intrepid Ibex ซึ่งหมายถึงแพะภูเขาผู้กล้าหาญ (ดูรูป Ibex)

Ubuntu 8.10 จะเป็น Ubuntu รุ่นที่เก้า และเป็นการครบรอบ 4 ปีของ Ubuntu ตัวแรก 4.10 Warty Warthog โดยเวอร์ชันนี้มีเป้าหมายจะพัฒนาส่วนของ mobile computing เป็นสำคัญ

หลังจาก Ubuntu 6.06 LTS เป็นต้นมา โค้ดเนมของ Ubuntu เรียงตามตัวอักษรภาษาอังกฤษโดยเริ่มจาก D (Dapper Drake) จนมาถึง I (Intrepid Ibex) ในเวอร์ชันนี้ ตัวหน้าถ้าไม่มีอะไรเปลี่ยนคงเป็น J

โค้ดเนมเรียงตามตัวอักษรเหมือนกับของ linux mint เลยครับแต่ของ mint เริ่มตั้งแต่ตัว A ตอนนี้ถึงตัว D v4.0
