ถ้ายังจำกันได้ เมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคมอินเทลเคยออกมาบอกว่ากำลังพอร์ต Jelly Bean ลง Atom และตอนนี้อินเทลเสร็จสิ้นการพอร์ตเป็นที่เรียบร้อย
Mike Bell รองประธานฝ่ายอุปกรณ์พกพาของอินเทลให้สัมภาษณ์กับ PCWorld ระหว่างงาน IDF 2012 ว่าตอนนี้ชิป Atom ของอินเทลใช้งานได้กับแอนดรอยด์รุ่นใหม่ตั้งแต่ 2.3, 4.0 และล่าสุดอย่าง 4.1 Jelly Bean แล้ว พนักงานอินเทลในทีม รวมถึงเขาเองก็ใช้สมาร์ทโฟนที่รัน Jelly Bean บนชิป Atom รหัส Medfield แล้วเช่นกัน
ถึงกระนั้น Bell เองก็ไม่ได้บอกรายละเอียดว่าเครื่องรุ่นเก่าจะได้อัพเดตเป็น Jelly Bean เมื่อไร แต่บอกแผนว่าปีหน้าจะมีชิป Atom Medfield ดูอัลคอร์ และชิปอีกรุ่นสำหรับมือถือราคาถูกออกมาด้วย

intel+android คู่นี้น่าสนใจ สำหรับ intel การใช้ android เป็นการเปิดประตูส่ง x86 สู่ตลาดมือถือ เพราะ MS ไม่ยอมทำให้ (ซึ่งบอกตรง ๆ ไม่มึใครกล้าใช้ แต่ด้วยราคา เห็น 99$ มันก็น่าลอง) แต่ในมุมกลับ สำหรับ android เป็นการเปิดประตูสู่ x86 (อันนี้น่าสนใจกว่า และดูเหมือน intel จะเข้ามาช่วย port android ให้ซะงั้น คือซื้อ intel แถม android!! แทนที่จะแถม windows)
แล้วมันจะน่าสนใจจริงหรือ อัพเดทแต่ละทีก็ต้องรอ Intel มาพอร์ตให้ก่อน แถมไม่มีกำหนดด้วย
Usually Google works only on their handset/platform (Nexus). For anything else the hardware vendors have to provide their own 'HAL' layer.
This is how the other handset OS works too. Microsoft only provide the HAL for a handful of platforms. But the closed nature of these handset OS prevents the hardware vendors to customize parts in the handset, only the ones provided by the OS works.
Freedom come at cost.
Anyway the hardware vendors can also choose to build a handset which is very similar to the nexus, so they don't have to create their own HAL. This is how Chinese manufacturer can release their phone very quickly.
PS. I've just noticed that there is Atom image for AVD available. Just downloaded it last night.
ถ้านับจริงๆ ผมว่าดีกว่ารอลุ้นผู้ผลิตเอาที่ละรุ่นเยอะเลยครับ ใช้โมเดลที่เป็นของอินเทลที่มีหลายยี่ห้อ อินเทลทำให้ทีเดียวก็น่าจะได้พร้อมกับเกือบหมด

เอ๊ะหรือว่า nexus ตัวต่อไปจะใช้ X86
+1 ผมเชียร์ให้ nexus ออกทั้ง arm x86 mips เลย เพื่อความสนุกที่ผู้ผลิตจะเลือกใช้ cpu (การแข่งขันจะรุนแรงขึ้น และราคาอุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ จะยิ่งถูกลงไปอีก) ผมได้ข่าวว่า google,arm,amd แย่งกันซื้อ mips ครับ
