Today I had finally taken the brave decision to buy a new notebook and ventured to fortune tower.

I was very very dissapointed to see that no notebook (> 2 Ghz ; ~ 2 Kg) came without windows. Why must a linux user buy a windows licence which would never be used.

Have I missed some brands?

If this is the case, then how do Linux users in Thailand put up with this? Paying for Windows license and not using it.... is it an effort trying to neutralize Thailand's piracy rate? ;)

The next one should be RIA comparison. Please keep your eye on Blognone Library.

I think English forum is quite silent so I post to this one instead of Thai Forum.

As some of you might know, I'm running a Firefox 3 Usability Survey. Actually it's my Human-Computer interaction homework but I want to use real world example and contribute something back to Firefox. After talking with some of Mozilla guys, they agree that I should send the result back to them as independent analysis from 3rd party.

I am quite curious to know about the job market in IT for Thai people.

We are a struggling start up and wont be hiring any IT staff in the near future, but am keen to know whats going on, be prepared with the reality when we actually decide to hire.

Could anyone enlighten me on the salaries expected by Thai people for the following skills(speak English - moderately)?

I'm working on a topic in my paper about a foreigner who are working in Thailand. For someone who is a foreigner and worked in Thailand, I need your help filling out this quick survey form for me, please. It's only 4 questions long and would likely take you only about 1-2 minutes.

NO PERSONAL AND IDENTITY information will be collected, even your email address (you can even do multiple time but please don't do that). I would gladly appreciate you help.

I think there are many university students here, which are applicable for Google Summer of Code 2008.

Does anyone plan to submit SoC 2008?

For me, Definitely. Honestly, $4500 is very attractive and this year is my last student year.

In this thread, I just want to express how much I need to say thank you to the telecommunications price war in Thailand.

I just can't believe how privileged we are to live in a country where mobile services are so cheap. It is terribly hard to believe that an hour-long call could be as cheap as 7 baht (or even less for someone).

Right now, I am in Australia and I feel bad for myself and Australians who have to pay for such a ripped-off price for shitty services. (Seriously, I have only 2 bars of reception in Melbourne CBD! And at $49 a month?)

I am interested to know more about acceptability of e-commerce in Thailand. What do most people think about shopping online, what is the common person's views on this. I am sure geeks would prefer shopping online, but what about the average shopper?

From my observations(limited to very few people), I see most people have never purchased anything online and their common concerns are :-

To encourage and promote this new English forum, I'll try to post in this one as much as possible.

The first one is just normal question. What is your favourite English IT news source?

Mine are:

  • Ars Technica
  • Slashdot
  • OSNews (seems not to be in the same quality in last 2-3 years ago)
  • Engadget (most frequent update!)
  • TechCrunch (for web 2.0 news)
